"NED RAGGETTE & HIS ALL-SQUIRREL BAND!"

Yes, you read that right! That's the title of the (presumably) fantastic LP I found at a garage sale in a dream last night, no lie! Sadly, I had to wake up & go to work before I got a chance to listen to this extremely rare (and figmentary) opus, so all I can do is describe the cover, as best I can recall:

a)The title was written in something like smoke rings, and Ned's name was misspelled as above (and I took note of the error even in sleep)

b)Mr. Raggett(e), about whose appearance I know absolutely nothing, was photographed only from behind, arms spread & wearing a tux, like he was Leopold Stokowski or whoever.

c)There was a bandstand and a few empty chairs, but no sign of any instruments, and no squirrels, so I guess they were gathering nuts or hibernating or something.

Anyhow, that's all I have to say. Thought it was worth mentioning.

Worth mentioning? Are you kidding? This is gold!

Holy Shit!

BEST DREAM EVER.

I love when I dream of fictional titles, people's names, and so forth. I once dreamed that the Madeleine children's books were written by a gentleman named Henri Delacourt!

Last night I dreamt I went to a show by the "All Star Rock Orchestra" it was a big band assembled of various former stars from 70s and 80s rock....I remember specifically that they had two drummers (the guy from Foreigner and the guy from REO Speedwagon who for some reason I instantly recognized in the dream even though I have no idea who they are in real life)....Linda Rondstadt was one of the singers...they did lots of covers of famous songs (none of which I can remember)

Actually, the Squirrels do in fact do a combination bluegrass/disco cover of "Brain Damage" on this album.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 11 August 2004 20:12 (twenty-one years ago)

|a|m|t|r|s|t| (amateurist), Wednesday, 11 August 2004 20:12 (twenty-one years ago)

They've dressed the part on occasion, at least when it comes to their heads.

I'll have to suggest that to them! (One of their more inspired moments was a fusion of the Oscar Meyer jingle words to the music of "Two Out of Three Ain't Bad.")

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 18 August 2004 20:01 (twenty-one years ago)

I've seen NR&HA-SB discographied in "Americana" sources over the years (think mebbe Tosches' COUNTRY?? Don't have my copy near by)Prbably they should work the Furry Friends convention circuit (no doubt there are Furry threads? I don't really want to know, honest). I take it Squirrel Nut Zippers are pretty well broken up at this point?Jas Mathus still shows up at festivals down here, like with Buddy Guy, and you can hear some Jas-fronted nuttiness on BealeStreetCaravan.com, last time I checked; not much of a singer but can play & lead a band. Also Jas Mathus & His Knockdown Society's SONGS FOR ROSETTA, a charity album but good anyway
