Just Blaze

Timbaland and The Neptunes feature pretty big on ILM, but what do people think of Just Blaze (and indeed, Kanye West)?

i love the way the Blueprint sort of steps back, for the most part, from the Tim aesthetic, into this histrionic, even classicist, symphonic soul vibe. it should sound backward looking but it seemed to suit what Jay is saying ("i'm looking past you"). I only really know of Just Blaze because of The Blueprint, and also the last Beanie Sigel album (those last 3 tracks would have been a credit to the Blueprint, they just as good, no?)

so, forgive my ignorance, but what else have JB and KW done, and how long have they been doing stuff in this style (have they always been like this, or is this like a new direction). Why do they get less props than Tim/Neptunes (i imagine it is because Tim/Neptunes are more forward looking and 'sonically inventive'?)

JUST BLAZE is dope... He did work with Buckshot on his BDI THUG solo and also with Half-A-mill in the early days.. now with Jay-Z and the rest of the ROC A FELLA crew.. he's moving up... he did excellent production for them.. KAYNE WEST also did an excellent job on the BLUEPRINT album.

Maybe just because they haven't done enough? "Izzo (H.O.V.A.) is the first hit either of them have had; Timbaland had one in '96 and The Neptunes in '98, so they've had a chance to become established, plus non hip hop fans take much longer to catch on to such trends. I think one of them produced Dead Prez's "Hip Hop" (though I may be wrong), which would explain "The Takeover" very well (tangential question: is it possible - as it increasingly seems to me - that "Hip Hop" was the most prophetic/prescient rap track of last year, sonically if not lyrically?)

Also: their style, at least as it exists on The Blueprint, seems designed to complement the rapper rather than make up for/overshadow/work alongside the rapper, as I think a lot of the big name producers' work does. So when you listen to The Blueprint it sounds like Jay-Z's songs, rather than Jay-Z's words plus the producers' music.

I don't know much about just Blaze(although I agree he's dope). But Kanye on the other hand did that one cut on Jay album before this one with Scareface, he did The Tuth(Beenie), stuff for J.D. Dead Prez, Imfamous Syndicate,D Dot, I think he did some stuff with Nas and countless Chicago Cats.

Just blaze has a range of talents ranging from producing emotional songs, to catchy bouncy songs such as rockafella intro's. Just Blaze is by far the best rocafella producer and work on the blueprint is highly rated.

LOOK OUT FOR BLUEPRINT TWO, PRODUCED BY JUST BLAZE AND DAZ DILLINGER.

COMING LATE 2002
