Is anybody else discovering that after listening to Happy People it's near impossible to focus on anything, think a negative thought, I mean, jesus christ I feel like I'm stoned! Just non-stop love love love dance love step love love love love and my god, have I transcended just

I can't even finish a sentence really. It's not a perfect album, a lot of filler, but the EFFECT, man, the effect.

CeCe Peniston (Anthony Miccio), Tuesday, 24 August 2004 22:49 (twenty-one years ago)

proof that this album stoned me to my soul stoned me just like jelly roll yeah it stoned me: I think that R. Kelly is aware of his superhuman ability to spread the joy. Check out these liner notes!

"This album is designed to touch your soul and put your spirit at ease.

Love God
Love myself
Love one another
No matter what the color
Respect that woman
Respect that man
If you see a person down
Then give them a hand
Hit the health club every now and then
Put a smile on your face
And make a friend

Stop the hatin' and the negativity so your love your neighbor
Said the powers that be
If you're going through something
Don't take it out on me
Just ask God to fix it
Now be happy!"

ASK AND SO IT SHALL BE, R.!

I want to say something agnostic and flippant about the other CD U Saved Me but like whooo man I don't wanna harsh no mellows

CeCe Peniston (Anthony Miccio), Tuesday, 24 August 2004 23:02 (twenty-one years ago)

how come the weatherman is telling us the time?

s1ocki (slutsky), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 01:14 (twenty-one years ago)

WHAT FRESH HELL IS THIS

s1ocki (slutsky), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 01:14 (twenty-one years ago)

in conclusion, when can i hear this.

s1ocki (slutsky), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 01:14 (twenty-one years ago)

Listening to the title song, which is what I thought this thread referred to. This may be his first song I've heard that was not "I Believe I Can Fly", so forgive if this is a dumb quesion: Does he always sound like late, lame Stevie Wonder (up to when he breaks it down, where I *swear* I hear a Smash Mouth (I think) guitar part...)?? Certainly he can't...I'll put down the rest of it.

frankE (frankE), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 02:00 (twenty-one years ago)

Wait. Not Smash Mouth...OMC's "How Bizarre"!

frankE (frankE), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 02:02 (twenty-one years ago)

er...two posts up: put = pull

frankE (frankE), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 02:17 (twenty-one years ago)

ADAM IM GOING ON SLSK FOR YOU

cutty (mcutt), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 02:20 (twenty-one years ago)

for a pedophile with an enormous ego, r. kelly sure has a way of making people happy. i saw his new record in tower today and sort of lit up.

amateur!!!st (amateurist), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 02:25 (twenty-one years ago)

I would like to reaffirm that hearing this album is like somebody pulling out a gargantuan bong and saying "shffffft, yo anthony, you want some of this?"

HELLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL YEAAAAAAAHHHH!!!!!!

CeCe Peniston (Anthony Miccio), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 05:57 (twenty-one years ago)

It's gonna be love o'clock for DAYS, possibly WEEKS at casa del Miccio, folks.

CeCe Peniston (Anthony Miccio), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 06:01 (twenty-one years ago)

the song that most blatantly lifts a Makes Me Wanna Holler/What's Going On vibe is followed by R. Kelly saying "yeah, Marvin Gaye inspired me to write that." GAWDAMN!

CeCe Peniston (Anthony Miccio), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 06:03 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah R Kelly def sounds less like S Wonder and more like Marvin Gaye crossed w/ some Chicago-style gospel etc to me.

FrankE does this mean you've never heard the Ignition (Remix) aka best song of the 2000s?!

djdee2005, Wednesday, 25 August 2004 06:45 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm obliged to buy this now, aren't I?

Forksclovetofu (Forksclovetofu), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 06:49 (twenty-one years ago)

FrankE does this mean you've never heard the Ignition (Remix) aka best song of the 2000s?!

yes.

frankE (frankE), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 12:15 (twenty-one years ago)

k. just heard it. fun. really fun.

frankE (frankE), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 12:31 (twenty-one years ago)

wonder if he'll release albums from jail like shyne...

paulhw (paulhw), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 14:14 (twenty-one years ago)

I must admit that Love Signals is the warmest, fuzziest song I've heard since "Family Business".

frankE (frankE), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 18:14 (twenty-one years ago)

Respect that woman
Respect that man
If you see a person down
Then give them a hand
Hit the health club every now and then
Put a smile on your face
And make a friend

...and if they're underage, pee on their face? Okay, fair enough, the underage part is what's still "alleged," right? But where do golden showers fit into this loveapalooza?

Softly Weeping at the Oki Dog (Ben Boyer), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 21:16 (twenty-one years ago)

I really can't fathom why this guy has a career at all anymore.

Shakey Mo Collier, Wednesday, 25 August 2004 21:28 (twenty-one years ago)

i liked step in the name of love a lot, that was one of his best songs in a while, but a whole album of rewrites of that song is ridiculous. i dont care if stepping is a chicago tradition. it cant be a tradition to repeat yourself over 50 minutes.

dickvandyke (dickvandyke), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 21:31 (twenty-one years ago)

he's awful. like when barry white kept releasing albums 9 years after his prime.

paulhw (paulhw), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 23:31 (twenty-one years ago)

sounds like you need to get back to love street, grumpy

CeCe Peniston (Anthony Miccio), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 23:33 (twenty-one years ago)

either that, or you gots to lay off the x n cris mix. this ain't the 90s.

paulhw (paulhw), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 23:34 (twenty-one years ago)

directions (courtesy of R.):

you make a right on L, take a left on O. You come to a green light, that's when you can go. Go straight on V until you come to E. That's when you see a big sign that says "Welcome To LOVE STREET."

CeCe Peniston (Anthony Miccio), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 23:36 (twenty-one years ago)

you make a right on L, take a left on O. You come to a green light, that's when you can go. Go straight on V until you come to E.
you don't stop til you've taken out P. All that's left is E, and another E...then what your girl got?

Love Pee

paulhw (paulhw), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 23:41 (twenty-one years ago)

'cept it's not love, it's abuse.

say i got a lack of love / humor etc about this, but is that's where we need to draw some kind of line, i'm happy to be on the side of the humorless. i gets my happiness from more interesting music.

Love Street, St Mirren

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Wednesday, 25 August 2004 23:47 (twenty-one years ago)

four weeks pass...
I totally agree with Anthony : no real stand out tracks but the overall feeling is just great... makes me merry...
no too sure about the second album, though...
Don't you find R. kinda in another dimension compared to all the current releases in rn'b ? I mean, it's not that he's better or worse, he just seems... in a world of his own.
I can't even see how happy people/u saved me could sell... does it ?

AleXTC (AleXTC), Thursday, 23 September 2004 14:42 (twenty-one years ago)

U Saved Me starts off so freaky. that "three way call" or whatever it is...it's kinda creepy in its awkwardness.

frankE (frankE), Thursday, 23 September 2004 14:46 (twenty-one years ago)

yeah, the first track is bizarre... it's his real sister, right ?
it's a bit an opera n'b piece !
that said, i like u saved me (the track) although i found it ridiculous at first... i'm craving to watch the video again but mtv base just won't play it, damn !

AleXTC (AleXTC), Thursday, 23 September 2004 14:50 (twenty-one years ago)

The video for your U Saved Me is on launch.com too I think.

Yeah with further listenings I'll admit there's a lot of filler here. I rarely get all the way through it, but the overall effect is remains impressive. There is no question that R. Kelly is in another world.

manthony m1cc1o (Anthony Miccio), Thursday, 23 September 2004 15:19 (twenty-one years ago)

a world of peace, love, and urine...

latebloomer (latebloomer), Thursday, 23 September 2004 15:25 (twenty-one years ago)

and of stepping !
as for the urine thing, i don't see what's the problem about that. I mean, everyone gets his pleasure where he can find it...
as long as u respect that woman !
