Imaginary Bands

Do you ever make up imaginary bands and talk about them with your friends as though they were real, perhaps for the purpose of humour?

Bill Drummond in "45" goes on about The Fuckers, a Lapp punk band, and Kristina Brunk (?), a failed Finnish singer. He then admits he just made them up, but he does bang on about them in great detail, because he's mad.

Chariot (or CHARIOT!) are my imaginary band. They are prog-rockers who recorded a seven disc concept album, "The Chronicles of Narnia". They performed it live at the Tungushka crater. Their stage set features members of the band riding around in chariots pulled by polar bears.

Erm... we have a whole slew of imaginary Bull and Gate bands! Vomit Formaldehyde and the Booze Apocalypse are the only one I can think of right now.

Some people claim that Hacky Sack and Danegeld are made up.

I have--I know, I know, it's pretentious as hell--made reference to the Paranoids on certain occasions.

Whenever I think of an imaginary band I just go ahead and do it! Expect an appearance by Bone Yank Freddy or Amusement Pork near you soon!

We've got a great idea for a band called "Dongfest USA." Four guys, all lead guitar players, just playing-over-the top solos with no accompanyment, while jogging on treadmills. One guy takes a solo, all divebomb tremelo, two-hand tapping, etc., then passes the torch...

I had an imaginary band called My So-Called Band, all our songs were about episodes of My So-Called Life. Song titles: jordan can't read, rayanne's drunk again, angela's too good for you, etc.

I/we had a garage band - "Gilligan's Chair" - (name chosen by having someone else pick two words quasi-randomly.) Some of the "hits" included "Anthrax" (The words were, "I Gotta. Getta. Coke." - song was about 6 seconds long.), "Skipper in my Pants", "Nice Night for a Beating". All of the members died of drug overdoses 3 months after "Skipper" hit #57 on Billboard.

My imaginary band is no longer imaginary because I wrote a song for us. We're called Steed and we perform with papier-mache horse heads on, and the only thing we say between songs is "We are Steed!" Our song(s) blaze a new path through thrash, black, and speed metal, plus they're all about horses and Katherine the Great and stuff.

This wasn't my idea, but I wrote a song for it anyway.

Hoo boy. Are you mighty stallions?

Ned Raggett, Monday, 3 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I wanna hear Steed do cover versions of Ween's "The Stallion."

Tadeusz Suchodolski, Monday, 3 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I would PAY MONEY to see Nitsuh and Dan on stage together vocalizing on "Captain Fantasy."

Jacob and I would be called Infernal Racket Beast and sing songs not less than 6 minutes which consisted of one word...and always covered in flour while writhing in agony. our demise would be taking caffeine and sleeping pills at the same time.

I once played "Fantasy Bands" (A like Fantasy Football, expect with bands made up of members of chart bands!). My fantasy band was composed of (This gives you an idea of how old it was) Daniel McNamara from Embrace, Missy Elliot and Danbert Nobacon from Chumbawumba!!!!! It was called.... (FX: Drum roll) Vigilant Shipbuilders!!!! For some extraordinary reason, it didn't too well.

Old Fart!!!!

Fire Action! being the latest in a long line. We have great songs called things like "In the event of emergency dial 999" and we make all of our instruments out of fire extinguishers.

Also SINonymous, being, of course, a new metal band, taking the crown from InKwiZitoR.

Most of the thousands of bands I've been in have only ever written one song, mind you, so they probably do still count as imaginary...

Damn italics.

A few dear friends of mine developed a boy band called "Sweet Sugah Kane" In about '93. All of their songs began with the word "Girrrhhhlll..." I think NSYNC and BSB stole their idea!!! Don't worry, I'm sure that the Sugah boys will show those twits whats what on their next release!

I seem to recall last Saturday after some sake, gin & tonic, and a couple of beers some friends & I decided to start a band called "Mike's Crotch" where nobody played anything they knew how to play & we maybe did only Killdozer covers, or at least "A Man's Got to Be a Man."
I don't even know anyone named Mike.

Bang Ted (Only Kidding) is a concept band based on the idea of following Sen. Edward Kennedy around and throwing firecrackers when he wasn't looking. Chapaquitic Love Song (I'm in over my head), When Drinking Becomes the Reason, Martha(Moxley)My Dear, She Blew Me Too! (like a Candle in the Wind)...the set list goes on.

Speedy Gonzalas (Speedy Gonzalas), Thursday, 4 December 2003 08:56 (twenty-one years ago)

Hey, I was in a group called Stage Fright, once.

One performance only. "Hound Dog", pontins talent show. Me, a mate and two other lads we met in the pub. The backing band wore "what the fuck" expressions, My mate Alistair did a nice curtsey at the end for one of the girl judges, and we legged it outside after the performance so's we could fall about laffing...

When I was about nine or ten I had an imaginary band called Scrabble. I once mapped out a whole career for them, seven albums, two doubles, one split, one reformation. And the odd thing is that I did actually write a good number of songs for them which I still sing in my head from time to time, think "That's a bloody good tune, why don't I do something with it?", then realise that I would never dare let anyone hear a Scrabble song.

twenty years pass...

I would go and see the band Cow Tools
