I like the host.
Is this Brazilian Maria Rita any good? I like her voice from the snippet they played.
I can't believe there is zero salsa presence. Did I see that correctly? I was really hoping Victor Manuelle would perform.

Paulina Rubio wasn't that great. Nice touch with the dogs on stage though. (she did look great though.)

It's brave to bring dogs onto the stage. They do occasionally get out of line.

I liked the cafe tacuba guy's hat too!
And Xuxa and Cheech! I have an episode of Xuxa's short-lived u.s. kidz show on video with cheech on it.

And there's Maria Rita again. She looks like she's going to break down and cry every time she gets called up.

I like how they have Latino commercials on during the latin Grammys.
So far, this is already better than 95% of all recent awards show i have seen.

I've never heard him before.
I'll tell you what I don't like is that ranchero music that they just gave an award for. I'm not real big on some of that trad mexican stuff. maybe my mexican co-workers in the philly corner stores that i worked in made me sick of it. (i did like their taste in metal and punk though!)
― scott seward (scott seward), Thursday, 2 September 2004 00:48 (twenty-one years ago)
Well, that was short and sweet. Most of those shows go on forever. I wouldn't have minded watching a couple more acts.
Adios, Rockist. Vaya Con Dios.

i saw virtually the whole thing, r.s., and i share your feeling that there wasn't any real salsa / enough bogus salsa / salsa. even a bit of reggaeton would have done if they had oh say don omar or someone like that who really do incorporate salsa music. i take back everything i ever said about latin grammys; although the non-involvement of emilio estefan probly's what did it. anyway, yeah.

washingtonpost.com Music Producer Dies in Crash After Grammys
ReutersFriday, September 3, 2004; Page C03
LOS ANGELES, Sept. 2 -- A Brazilian music producer who was a leading nominee at the Latin Grammy Awards was killed in a motorcycle crash in Los Angeles early Thursday, hours after leaving the show, police and his record label said.
Tom Capone, who was nominated for five Latin Grammys and produced award-winning albums by Brazilian singer Maria Rita and the rock band Skank, died from massive head trauma after his rented Harley-Davidson collided with a car.
Capone was driving down Ventura Boulevard when his motorcycle and a Dodge Neon driven by a 23-year-old woman smashed into each other at an intersection, Los Angeles Police Lt. Steven Allen told Reuters.
The 37-year-old producer was wearing a "novelty helmet" that would not have provided much head protection, Allen said.
Capone, whose real name was Luis Antonio Ferreira Goncalves, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Allen said Capone may have run a red light and that the woman, who was not injured in the crash, passed a sobriety test and would not be charged.
"Somebody ran a red light," he said. "The only person still alive says she didn't run a red light."
A spokesman for Warner Bros. Music Brasil confirmed that Capone was killed in a motorcycle accident.
While little known in the United States, Capone had gained fame in the Latin American world, and Billboard magazine reported that with his five Grammy nominations he became the most nominated Brazilian ever.
Capone was nominated for album of the year and best engineered album for "Maria Rita" and for producer of the year. He was also nominated twice for record of the year, for Maria Rita's "A Festa" and Skank's "Dois Rios."
