Boney M, Touching the Void, and Death

In the excellent movie Touching the Void, which chronicles an ill-fated mountain climbing expedition in the Andes, Joe Simpson recalls how, as he was near death from hypothermia and thirst as the base of the mountain, he couldn't get Boney M's "There's a Brown Girl in the Ring" out of his head. He recalled thinking that he did not want to die to Boney M. The song played in the movie during the reenactment and it sounded to me as if he could a lot worse.

What do you imagine playing in your head as you slip into the void?

I would LOVE to die to "Brown Girl In The Ring". I can't think of anything more beautiful.

a friend of mine once claimed to have plotted to end his life to 'wynona's big brown beaver' (or whatever the actual title is) by primus and to put it on repeat. he didn't
especially like primus but figured that the song would soften the blow for whoever
found him.

"oh my god! you--! ERIK!?"
[wynona had a big brown beaver...]
"wha!?!?! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA... Oh dear, Erik. Such a joker. I shall miss you."

Dying to Boney M's song 'Brown Girl' halfway up a mountain - is that a camp death?

Boney M. song I would not want to die to (even though it's my favorite) "Hooray, Hooray, It's a Holi-Holiday." However, I must admit it would be appropriate, as it would echo the death of Ma Baker and her gang in Boney M's "Ma Baker": "One day they robbed a bank/It was their last hooray." (I kid you not.)

Boney M. songs I would prefer dying to: "Rasputin" (if I wanted to hang on for a long time), "Sad Movies Always Make Me Cry," "Future World," "10,000 Lightyears."

"Rasputin" (if I wanted to hang on for a long time)

(derail)
Oh, man. I once had a gig recreating Rasputin's string line and "Ohhhh, those Russians" bit for a guy that wanted to sample it for a dance record.
(/derail)

Back on track, I think "Finally" by Kings Of Tomorrow would probably crop up in my brain if I was hanging on for my life, as it's about travelling off to meet one's maker.

Carmina Burana. Actually, come to think of it, "In Plango Vulnera" to be precise.

I almost died to "Spirit in the Sky". The lame 80's cover version.

A very painful memory. And the almost dying part was painful too.

I still think of this movie, and "Brown Girl in the Ring", often.

More euro disco sadness:

I love all of the Egyptology in the visuals.
