HOW CAN THIS BE CONSIDERED A VH1 CLASSIC. ISN'T IT VIOLATING THE NO POST-1991 RULE ?

Vic (Vic), Thursday, 2 September 2004 18:52 (twenty years ago)

Sure it wasn't during "Classic/Current" or something?

it was during the SOUL section, following a Patti Labelle song.

and now in the ROCK show they are playing Soul Aslyum - Runaway Train. Ok so I guess the no-post 1991 rule does not exist anymore.... but still, MARIAH. UGH.

I love the 90s, dude.
Last weekend, they did a soul-crushing "grunge bandwagoneers" segement fading right into an epic 90s alty adult-contemporary set, then backed up with "hip house" run.
It's all game; they're on a roll...

I think it's a ten-year cutoff, which is perfectly reasonable.

The early 90s were among the greatest times for music ever so no one should be complaining.

"Der Kommisar"!

I watch VH1 Classic, and they play videos from the early 90s fairly often. It seems that the cut-off date is about '94. They stick with a ten-year buffer zone...

Also, why shouldn't they play stuff from the early 90s? It's not as though anything from that period gets regular play anywhere else these days.

Matthew Perpetua (Matthew Perpetua), Thursday, 2 September 2004 19:23 (twenty years ago)

I mean, if I saw them play "Dreamlover," I'd be kinda thrilled.

Matthew Perpetua (Matthew Perpetua), Thursday, 2 September 2004 19:24 (twenty years ago)

Better yet: "Vision Of Love" or "Can't Let Go."

The first time I saw them break the post-1990 rule was Lou Reed's "What's Good."

I remember the first time Classic Gold broke the 90s rule.

They played Wet Wet Wet.

dreamlover=classic
vision of love=classic
'il be there' (with boys 11 men) absolute classic

"Dreamlover" is as good as Mariah gets, which is pretty damn fabulous. "Vision of Love," "Breakdown" and "Fantasy" are all close behind.

The Good Dr. Bill (Andrew Unterberger), Friday, 3 September 2004 10:51 (twenty years ago)

I'm pretty big on "Fantasy," "Honey," and "Heartbreaker."

Can we have some love for "Dream Lover (David Morales Def Club Mix)" please? Because it was, oh, just awesome. Thank you.
