i'll have some info about that soon...! maybe monday. err. watch this space, dude!

doomie x, Friday, 3 September 2004 08:54 (twenty years ago)

what what what?

dog latin (dog latin), Friday, 3 September 2004 08:57 (twenty years ago)

i had a chat about all the boo radleys anthology plus many other creation-related treats but will have official word on what is down very soon.

doomie x, Friday, 3 September 2004 08:59 (twenty years ago)

*getting all excited now*

dog latin (dog latin), Friday, 3 September 2004 09:08 (twenty years ago)

yeah so did i ... instead of rumour we've got fact happening now!

doomie x, Friday, 3 September 2004 09:09 (twenty years ago)

'Twould be nice to get some Boo Radleys reissues... at least the early stuff [/shoegaze snob]

Hi, Doomie, BTW!

Super-Masonic Black Hole (kate), Friday, 3 September 2004 09:10 (twenty years ago)

put it this way - extensive treats are on the horizon. but i want to wait until i get official word as i gabbed about summer hits far too soon and the repercussions are still hitting joe, the tyde and rough trade as to what is happening...! (which is very soon...)

doomie x, Friday, 3 September 2004 09:12 (twenty years ago)

will ichabod and i be reissued? is it as bad as they think it is?
they tyde have something to do with this? why? they'll end up ruining it.

keith m (keithmcl), Friday, 3 September 2004 19:19 (twenty years ago)

is it as bad as they think it is?

No, it's actually quite good, had a good CDR burn of this for some years now.

they'll end up ruining it.

That's for damn sure.

My understanding was that McGee ripped into Carr a few years back and was complaining about him vociferously, so I was wondering if anything would come of such reissues. My homemade rarities collection alone is 4 CDRs worth of B-sides, oddities and remixes, so there's definitely a lot out there!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 3 September 2004 19:33 (twenty years ago)

My understanding was that McGee ripped into Carr a few years back and was complaining about him vociferously

Yeah I was gonna say - he complained that they lost him money, basically, IIRC. Prick. I don't think there's much love lost between them so it is quite surprising

DJ Mencap0))), Saturday, 4 September 2004 09:17 (twenty years ago)

errr ... can we focus on the music? instead of bantering about stuff that really is of no consequence. i asked joe about this and he said - 'oh its just childishness - we've all done it before only people seem to think our childishness is important somehow'. martin has personally supervised the anthology tracklisting.

doomie x, Saturday, 4 September 2004 09:44 (twenty years ago)

five months pass...
Oh, big apols, a thread with my name on and I never saw it!

So, what happen(s) soon, doomie?

mark grout (mark grout), Thursday, 3 March 2005 11:52 (twenty years ago)

yes yes what WAHT!!!!!

dog latin (dog latin), Thursday, 3 March 2005 14:13 (twenty years ago)

one month passes...
http://www.nme.com/news/112104.htm

Here it is! Out in May.

Ah well, those "Kingsize" b-sides stay unreleased apart from "Tomorrow"

mark grout (mark grout), Wednesday, 20 April 2005 11:43 (twenty years ago)

But I do appreciate the artwork. :-)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 20 April 2005 12:09 (twenty years ago)

.. out in July, i mean.

mark grout (mark grout), Wednesday, 20 April 2005 12:48 (twenty years ago)

Dear Mr. Grout,

I love(d) The Boo Radleys - especially Giant Steps - but I've got Everything's Alright Forever, Giant Steps. Wake Up!, C'mon Kids and Kingsize: is there enough stuff on here that I haven't already got to really make this worth buying?

Yours sincerely,

Stewart Osborne (Stewart Osborne), Wednesday, 20 April 2005 12:56 (twenty years ago)

oh man - i have this terrible sense of sadness about this release... i really don't know why.

dog latin (dog latin), Wednesday, 20 April 2005 12:59 (twenty years ago)

Right, well you haven't got the "Ichabod and I" stuff and the rough trade singles, which takes you up to track seven, and a few b-sides "Vote You" for example, and "Tomorrow" which is the song from "Bugsy Malone" which never got released as the single "Kingsize" got canned.

mark grout (mark grout), Wednesday, 20 April 2005 13:02 (twenty years ago)

lots of tracks i don't know - plus giant steps-style artwork!

dog latin (dog latin), Wednesday, 20 April 2005 13:03 (twenty years ago)

were you involved in this compilation mark?

i'm so happy that this is coming out and that the boos' back catalogue is being treated with nothing but respect. this is a brilliant cross section of their work and i'm very happy that they've included non-obvious gems like "I've Lost The Reason", "Buffallo Bill", the full version of "Wake Up Boo!", "Four Saints", "Blues For George Michael", not to mention the Ichabod stuff! Actually there's very little on here to complain about other than I'd have replaced "Comb Your Hair" with "The Old Newsstand..." but this is nitpicking.

dog latin (dog latin), Wednesday, 20 April 2005 13:26 (twenty years ago)

No, not at all.

I asked Doomie, about two years ago, about a Boo's comp that had been mentioned in one of the Creation story books, if he knew what tracks were on it. At the time, he said nothing, but then I found this thread w/my name on it, 6 months later.

The story was that Sony were going to issue "Wake Up" - The Boo Radleys greatest hits compilation, last year. But that got stopped by Martin Carr as his contract gave him veto over any Boos compilations.

This one is compiled by Martin.

mark grout (mark grout), Wednesday, 20 April 2005 13:30 (twenty years ago)

aw, i'm so glad! it's always better when the artist does the choosing.

dog latin (dog latin), Wednesday, 20 April 2005 13:33 (twenty years ago)

YAY Music For Astronauts!

kit brash (kit brash), Wednesday, 20 April 2005 21:41 (twenty years ago)

Too much is missing - from the Rough Trade EPs these tracks are classic: Naomi, Sometime Soon She Said and Foster's Van.

The Horse of Babylon's Butler (the pirate king), Wednesday, 20 April 2005 22:10 (twenty years ago)

Yeah, but all those are on "Learning to walk" ..

mark grout (mark grout), Thursday, 21 April 2005 07:50 (twenty years ago)

Yeh, they've already been compiled elsewhere, although Foster's Van is glorious! They do have Kaleidoscope and Everybird on there.

dog latin (dog latin), Thursday, 21 April 2005 10:58 (twenty years ago)

Kaleidoscope could well be the Ichabod version.

mark grout (mark grout), Thursday, 21 April 2005 11:22 (twenty years ago)

hopefully.

I've got Ichabod on vinyl - although the hole in the centre is too big and there's no label on the front. The sleeve looks right though. Is this a bootleg or the real deal. It was about £13 when I bought it.

dog latin (dog latin), Thursday, 21 April 2005 13:42 (twenty years ago)

two months pass...
Yes! After about 10 years of trawling through second hand stores and in more recent times, Soulseek, I believe I've managed to compile the ultimate 3-CD Boo-sides collection. I haven't quite started on the remixes comp which will probably take up 2 more cds but here is my list. 3. Whiplashed
4. Sunfly
5. Buffalo Bill

15. Peachy Keen
16. FUrthur
17. Crow Eye
18. Tortoiseshell
19. Zoom
20. Cracked Lips, Homesick

CD 2 (1994 - 1995)

1. Janus
2. Blues For George Michael
3. Friendship Song
4. And Tomorrow The World
5. I Want A Rainbow Nation
6. Don't Take Your Gun To Town
7. Wallpaper
8. Very Together
9. The Only Word I Can Find

14. Oh, Brother
15. From the Bench At Belvidere
16. Hi Falutin
17. Crushed
18. Almost Nearly There
19. The Queen Is Dead
20. The History of Creation Parts 17 & 36

CD 3 (1996 - 1999)

1. Bloke In A Dress
2. Flakes
3. Atlantic
4. The Absent Boy
5. Annie and Marnie
6. There She Goes
7. Spion Kop
8. To Beautiful
9. Nothing To Do But Scare Myself
10. Vote You
11. A Part I Know So Well
12. Roadie
13. Safe At Home
14. Spanish Lizards
15. Everything Falls Away
16. In A Galaxy Far, Far Away
17. Last Night I Dreamt Of God

Please, please don't let me have made any omissions!

dog latin (dog latin), Tuesday, 28 June 2005 10:41 (nineteen years ago)

Oh yeh, also I've been enjoying Carr's extensive notes at www.booradleys.co.uk

dog latin (dog latin), Tuesday, 28 June 2005 10:43 (nineteen years ago)

Man, you should have asked Ned!

mark grout (mark grout), Tuesday, 28 June 2005 10:47 (nineteen years ago)

Oh, and you are missing "french canadian bean soup", freebie single with "Cmon Kids" LP.

mark grout (mark grout), Tuesday, 28 June 2005 10:49 (nineteen years ago)

http://s8.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=3P9XHAFBFYFA82UG5K2LTL62AE

This one...

mark grout (mark grout), Tuesday, 28 June 2005 10:59 (nineteen years ago)

Oh bugger! I have, haven't I! and Skywalker!

Rats! I@ve got them too. What a spanner

dog latin (dog latin), Tuesday, 28 June 2005 11:02 (nineteen years ago)

Any others before I reburn?

dog latin (dog latin), Tuesday, 28 June 2005 11:08 (nineteen years ago)

> Spion Kop

there's a track on the new Quinoline Yellow cd called Spion Kop. i'm guessing it's a football thing rather than a Boer War thing.

koogs (koogs), Tuesday, 28 June 2005 12:07 (nineteen years ago)

Wasn't there an alternate "Stuck on Amber" on a Select tape?

mark grout (mark grout), Tuesday, 28 June 2005 12:30 (nineteen years ago)

they must have had something on Volume at some point too surely?

I've got a disc full of remixes (mostly Wake Up/C'mon era) I took off my CD singles yearzz ago, gimme a shout if you need anything in tops quality

kit brash (kit brash), Tuesday, 28 June 2005 13:22 (nineteen years ago)

Man, you should have asked Ned!

I was about to say, D.L.! I did all this already!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 28 June 2005 13:23 (nineteen years ago)

i'm guessing it's a football thing rather than a Boer War thing.

Er, yes. Please to refer to the Liverpool Kop.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 28 June 2005 13:25 (nineteen years ago)

I guess it's funner to do it yourself, especially after tracking down a lot of the singles as a 17 year old - printed off a lovely cover too.

dog latin (dog latin), Tuesday, 28 June 2005 13:30 (nineteen years ago)

Well now that is true. :-)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 28 June 2005 13:30 (nineteen years ago)

Reaching out from here (demo) was on Volume.

mark grout (mark grout), Tuesday, 28 June 2005 13:38 (nineteen years ago)

> Er, yes. Please to refer to the Liverpool Kop.

er, yes. but the Spion bit?

there was a discog i found the other day which had all the limited things on it (split with spiritualized, the mail order only thing, the xfm track. can't find it now)

koogs (koogs), Tuesday, 28 June 2005 15:23 (nineteen years ago)

http://www.djouls.com/booradleys/

This one? (French. With an english version)

Pretty complete, apart from the "Kingsize" single.

mark grout (mark grout), Tuesday, 28 June 2005 15:37 (nineteen years ago)

There's an English version? Damn, I've been having trouble translating!

dog latin (dog latin), Tuesday, 28 June 2005 19:08 (nineteen years ago)

I never got past "Everything's Alright Forever", which I still enjoy - what's their later output like? What are some standouts tracks from the other records?

Tantrum The Cat (Tantrum The Cat), Tuesday, 28 June 2005 19:18 (nineteen years ago)

Blues For George Michael, Four Saints, Lazarus, Butterfly McQueen, Joel, Bullfrog Green, Put Your Arms Around Me And Tell Me Everything's Going To Be Okay, Almost Nearly There.

It's nothing like Everything's Alright Forever but not in a bad way at all.

dog latin (dog latin), Tuesday, 28 June 2005 19:42 (nineteen years ago)

Thanks, I'll check these out.

Tantrum The Cat (Tantrum The Cat), Tuesday, 28 June 2005 19:47 (nineteen years ago)

There's an English version? Damn, I've been having trouble translating!
-- dog latin (doglati...) (webmail), June 28th, 2005 8:08 PM. (link)

Actually, there might not be. I think I did 'translate' via google...

Enough to find out "Same pants different day" was just "Donkey" under its working title.

mark grout (mark grout), Wednesday, 29 June 2005 08:01 (nineteen years ago)

Yeh. Imagine all the Boo nutters like me desperately trying to find that track and the disappointment afterwards.

Got to say that the Boos' version of Tomorrow from West Side Story is brilliant and Sice pisses all over Thom Yorke on that track. I haven't heard the original. I was expecting "Tomorrow, tomorrow, I love ya, tomorrow" etc... Is that not the same thing?

dog latin (dog latin), Wednesday, 29 June 2005 13:00 (nineteen years ago)

No, and the Boo's one is from Bugsy malone, and the other one is from "Annie". Apart from that, yes.

mark grout (mark grout), Wednesday, 29 June 2005 13:14 (nineteen years ago)

Oh yeh. So why is every MP3 I have say it's from West Side Story?

dog latin (dog latin), Wednesday, 29 June 2005 14:11 (nineteen years ago)

I hate to admit it, but I actually know that there's no song called "Tomorrow" in West Side Story

rentboy (rentboy), Wednesday, 29 June 2005 14:55 (nineteen years ago)

xpost cuz they all wrong!

mark grout (mark grout), Wednesday, 29 June 2005 15:03 (nineteen years ago)

Nice three CD set dog latin, I should do this myself someday. I will wait until I find an official copy of the Kingsize promo single and the bootleg A Boo-Sides Collection which does exist.

BTW, officially it’s called "Put Your Arms Around Me and Tell Me Everything’s Going To Be OK."

four weeks pass...
I feel terrible for not having bought this yet, even though I have all the songs on it. That said, I've only managed to spot it in one shop so far. This should have been advertised on TV with fucking fanfares and all!

dog latin (dog latin), Friday, 29 July 2005 17:39 (nineteen years ago)

Yeah, I saw one in Fopp for £15. One day...

OTM

I have finally found this after a few tries. I'm going to geek out with my review of this but want to hear a few more time before I start a new thread on this, so in about a weeks time I will give you my thoughts.
