There is also another argument that says that Landy took over Brians life. He made Brian dependant on him and then used Brian to further his own aspirations to be a musician with the cowrite/production work he did on the 2 albums Brian did while under Landys care(Brian Wilson and the unreleased Sweet Insanity). Some of his methods of treatment were suspect also.
Its obvious that the hand of Landy is all over Brians 'autobiography' as well. The Beach Boy 'family' put Brian under Landys care and then had to fight to get him away from Landys influence as it became clear that he was having more than a simple dr./patient relationship.
As far as I know Landy later ended up in court.
To be honest though its sometimes hard to tell the truth where the Beach Boys are concerned. So many people have wanted to exploit Brian Wilsons gift and take advantage of his sincerity and percieved naiivety that anything anyone ever does or says from that group has some kind of agenda behind it.

With so-called genius almost always comes madness or major character flaws. This maybe because we only regard as genius's those who produce major work whilst living on the edge in some way. Paul McCartney will never be regarded as a true genius, unlike Lennon who is(by some).
Once those with 'genius' or at least a great talent go through psychiatric analysis they often lose that which made their art interesting. John Cleese was never as funny after he had all his neuroses analysed out of him whereas Spike Milligan continued to produce on the edge, funny work presumably as a result of never having fully cured himself of his problems. There is still that glint of mischieve and madness in his eyes, even now.
