'Don't Get Weird on Me Babe' (Lloyd Cole) is one of my favorites.
'Atheists, Reconsider' (the Liars)
'Fold Your Hands, Child, You Walk Like A Peasant' (Belle and Sebastian)
I like all the silly titles.

meatmen, we're the meatmen and you still suck

(actually only the second belongs in the best-album-title category, but the first is needed for context.)

Tantrum The Cat (Tantrum The Cat), Saturday, 4 September 2004 13:11 (twenty years ago)

I have never heard it, but I was thinking again yesterday how evocative and alluring Darkness On The Edge Of Town is as a title.

Alba (Alba), Saturday, 4 September 2004 13:12 (twenty years ago)

Mark Morrison's 'Only God Can Judge Me.' Only brilliant if you know he had recently been up in court for a series of ridiculously petty crimes.

ANNIEMAL

Ronan (Ronan), Sunday, 5 September 2004 15:22 (twenty years ago)

"Songs About Fucking" really wins this, I think. Simple, concise and to the point. What more need be said?

Funkentelechy vs. the Placebo System, Parliament
Bo Diddley Is a Gunslinger, Bo Diddley

Good News For People Who Love Band News, although I would have loved it much more if it weren't a lyric.

Kings Of Convenience - "Quiet Is The New Loud"

-- Tantrum The Cat (tantrumtheca...), September 4th, 2004 12:11 AM. (later)

...was ripped of a Hood song title. Hood are much more clever than KoC could ever even dream of thinking about possibly being.

the surface noise (slight return) (electricsound), Tuesday, 7 September 2004 01:06 (twenty years ago)

I Like It When You Die

Curt1s St3ph3ns, Tuesday, 7 September 2004 01:07 (twenty years ago)

GbV "same place the fly got smashed"

the surface noise (slight return) (electricsound), Tuesday, 7 September 2004 01:07 (twenty years ago)

nectarine no. 9 "a sea with three stars"

the surface noise (slight return) (electricsound), Tuesday, 7 September 2004 01:09 (twenty years ago)

[Regarding that Jack Wagner title: He was better known as an actor on a daytime soap, "General Hospital" I believe. That was his 3rd album. His second had sold quite poorly.]

Myonga Von Bontee (Myonga Von Bontee), Tuesday, 7 September 2004 01:14 (twenty years ago)

John Bullabaugh (John Bullabaugh), Tuesday, 7 September 2004 01:30 (twenty years ago)

piers (piers), Tuesday, 7 September 2004 03:11 (twenty years ago)

Revolver = 'cause it goes around and around!

Myonga Von Bontee (Myonga Von Bontee), Tuesday, 7 September 2004 03:18 (twenty years ago)

The dryer at the laundromat does that too. They must've not been thinking of that at the time.

jim wentworth (wench), Tuesday, 7 September 2004 03:39 (twenty years ago)

Alba's choice is good though I haven't heard it. Also Nevermind. (Did that start the whole epidemic of people spelling "never mind" as one word?) Loveless. Oren Ambarchi's Suspension suits the music on the album really well and I like Grapes from the Estate too. Maybe Dancing In Your Head. Free Jazz, esp given that it was a new phrase at the tiem - became the name for a genre + it sounds like a rallying call.

sundar subramanian (sundar), Tuesday, 7 September 2004 04:06 (twenty years ago)

sundar subramanian (sundar), Tuesday, 7 September 2004 04:07 (twenty years ago)

Spinal Tap "Shit Sandwich"

-- Marshall Stax (MrMarshallSta...), September 7th, 2004.

the album was called "shark sandwich", it was the fictiotios reviewer who called it "shit sandwich".

though Tap's "Break Like the Wind" is a great title.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Wednesday, 8 September 2004 16:09 (twenty years ago)

I like the 6ths trick of having those difficult-to-pronounce-titles:
(Say 'em fast)
The 6ths' "Wasps' Nests"
The 6ths' "Hyacinths and Thistles"

Also:
Butthole Surfers "Hairway to Steven"

Softly Weeping at the Oki Dog (Ben Boyer), Wednesday, 8 September 2004 16:32 (twenty years ago)

four years pass...

Four years after the fact, I would like to correct Ben Boyer by pointing out that the 6ths' album titles (as well as the title of the group itself) are meant to be difficult to pronounce without sounding like you have a lisp (like the stereotypical homosexual).
