there seems to be a narraitve panto tradition that infects all three of these artists . A very British, too many words , theatrical traditon of camp. Are there any more that fit this traditon

Are you sure you mean panto Anthony? Slade are panto, B & S I would argue not.

Tom, Tuesday, 4 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Yes i do . They are theatrical and camp and work on performance. Not as rah rah as ordinary panto but i think it deserves a place.

anthony, Tuesday, 4 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Agree with Tom. B and S are fey, rather than camp.

Daniel, Tuesday, 4 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I thought fey was a branch on the tree of camp , whats the difference ?

anthony, Tuesday, 4 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I thought camp was a branch in the tree of fey? We need a dendrogram!

I've never heard the word panto in my life.

Sean, Tuesday, 4 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Oh yes you have!

(for GOD's sake - NOBODY said this already?)

MJ Hibbett, Tuesday, 4 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Isn't panto more robust and goofy, like the Sensational Alex Harvey Band? I haven't a clue. Is Freddie Mercury panto? Leigh Bowery? The Pipkins?

Arthur, Tuesday, 4 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

What the hell is panto?!?!

Sean, Tuesday, 4 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Like pantomime. Except it's not strictly mime. And it's some Xmas show tradition they have in England. That's all I know, Sean, someone English explain this for us American fools please.

Arthur, Tuesday, 4 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

what is pantomime. rest of site has sample scenes from some pantomimes

michael, Tuesday, 4 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

at least, some sample scenes from scripts the site's author has written. pantomimes follow standard storylines, but they're always updated with more topical jokes. it should give you an idea of the humour, anyway

michael, Tuesday, 4 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

sean could be panto

proto-panto momus linked panto with 80s synthpop once in one of his essays, at least for that period it has already been thoroughly done.

klaus nomi (thread please)

is ned panto?

erik, Tuesday, 4 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Ned is very clearly panto at times, which is why I always imagine him with the robe on.

Nitsuh, Tuesday, 4 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I may be disco, but I'm not panto.

Sean, Tuesday, 4 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

God that link is frightening. Room 101 material as Mr. Martian might say.

Tracer Hand, Tuesday, 4 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)
