I never thought I'd dig on Fleetwood Mac, but I got into them.

What should I check out? Soft rock gems. Obvious is fine. Thanks.

There have been so many different eras of Mac, you've got to elaborate a little for correct recommendations.

Assuming you mean the '75-'78 golden AM radio era...

The only thing that comes to mind is the Eagles, but I refuse to recommend them on principle.

There isn't anything. I'm sorry. I wish there was.

artdamages (artdamages), Monday, 6 September 2004 06:32 (twenty-one years ago)

Maybe some of Linda Rondstadt's "rock" records from the same time period.

Johnny Fever (johnny fever), Monday, 6 September 2004 06:33 (twenty-one years ago)

Hole's 'Celeberity Skin' and some of the Asylum crew (Joni, Jackson Browne, etc.)

Baaderoni (Fabfunk), Monday, 6 September 2004 06:35 (twenty-one years ago)

Celebrity Skin is like Fleetwood Mac? She can't even SING for Chrissakes.

Robin Goad (rgoad), Monday, 6 September 2004 07:39 (twenty-one years ago)

Not really like FM either but I suggest Big Star

Andrew Blood Thames (Andrew Thames), Monday, 6 September 2004 07:40 (twenty-one years ago)

Not really like FM either but I suggest Sun Ra

AaronHz (AaronHz), Monday, 6 September 2004 07:45 (twenty-one years ago)

I heard some of Christine McVie's new album yesterday and it sounded nice. "Peacekeeper" on the last FM album was really good Buckingham stuff w/anti-Taliban lyrics.

Rickey Wright (Rrrickey), Monday, 6 September 2004 08:19 (twenty-one years ago)

Hit rewind and try some of the "middle period" Fleetwood Mac albums, after Peter Green and before Buckingham/Nicks. Kiln House and Bare Trees are pretty good, if mild, and Penguin has its moments.

lovebug starski (lovebug starski), Monday, 6 September 2004 10:46 (twenty-one years ago)

If one wishes to hear Buckingham continuing in his "Tusk" vein, then I would definitely suggest his first solo album, "Law and Order".

Well, I think Delays sound VERY Fleetwood Mac. That boy sounds a lot like Stevie Nicks doing Lindsey Buckingham's songs.

in varying degrees: prince's first two albums ... late '60s/early '70s beach boys ... carole king (tapestry and other stuff from around the same period has LOTS in common with christine mcvie; the two-cd the ode collection, which goes up to 1976, is fabulous and totally on-point) ... todd rundgren OTM, too (not only the obv. records like a wizard a true star or something/anything, but there's also a distinct buckingham tint to todd's hermit of mink hollow).

Papas Fritas "Building and Grounds"
Especially the song Way you Walk.

For a contemporary version.
Also I like parts of the first two Buckingham solo records a lot.
Todd Rundgren is a good idea, never connected them before.

There was a great band from Indiana called Sardina that put out on album called Presents in the mid-90s and broke up. Mostly, it was famous for the cover, which was a great parody / rip-off of Led Zep's Presence. Anyway, they always struck me as Tusk-era Fleetwood Mac. Multiple songwriters, diverse instrumentation, great pop sensibilities... shame no one ever heard them. I dunno if you can find it on slsk or not, but definitely worth checking out.
