DISCUSS

Dan Perry '08 (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 7 September 2004 13:35 (twenty years ago)

I am playing this comp for the first time in YEARS (probably since 1996) and I ahd forgetten that the first two tracks alone are genius. I yearn for 1993 and the days when every other album/compilation released was full of things tailor-made to appeal directly to ME.

Dan Perry '08 (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 7 September 2004 13:45 (twenty years ago)

It looks cum-worthy but I don't know any of the tracks. I want more old techno compilations. I only have the odd Dutch gabba CD.

dog latin (dog latin), Tuesday, 7 September 2004 14:14 (twenty years ago)

i don't know any of these tracks either but would like to, hint hint gmail gmail Mr Perry?

the neurotic awakening of s (blueski), Tuesday, 7 September 2004 14:15 (twenty years ago)

B-b-b-but that would be UNETHICAL!

(how many attachments can gmail handle at once?)

Dan Perry '08 (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 7 September 2004 14:26 (twenty years ago)

not sure but omg thanks

the neurotic awakening of s (blueski), Tuesday, 7 September 2004 14:40 (twenty years ago)

thanks dan! :-)

dog latin (dog latin), Tuesday, 7 September 2004 14:47 (twenty years ago)

together in ecstasy....

Dan Perry '08 (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 7 September 2004 14:48 (twenty years ago)

I EAGERLY AWAIT THOUGHTS AND OPINIONS

Dan Perry '08 (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 7 September 2004 15:00 (twenty years ago)

I just tried searching for "Rising High" on slsk and all I got was De La Soul's debut album :(

Barry Bruner (Barry Bruner), Tuesday, 7 September 2004 15:12 (twenty years ago)

Look for Love Inc!

Dan Perry '08 (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 7 September 2004 15:13 (twenty years ago)

Dan move to Toronto where Chris Sheppard (Mr. Love Inc) has lived and worked for years, and where the dance station where he regularly DJed is a cultural phenomenon. Every song they play sounds like Love Inc, except one time I caught them playing 'Fantasy' by Mariah f. ODB but I think the DJ was subsequently fired.

Love Inc!

Dave M. (rotten03), Tuesday, 7 September 2004 15:22 (twenty years ago)

OH MY GOD

That is pretty much all the justification I need to move to Toronto (provided my wife can find singing gigs there).

Dan Perry '08 (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 7 September 2004 15:24 (twenty years ago)

I think there were two or three different Love Inc's ...

Barry Bruner (Barry Bruner), Tuesday, 7 September 2004 15:25 (twenty years ago)

Oh, and the Love Inc. on this compilation is NOT Chris Sheppard's Love Inc. (which didn't start until 1996-7, I believe).

Barry Bruner (Barry Bruner), Tuesday, 7 September 2004 15:26 (twenty years ago)

Yeah, I just looked at the CD and noticed that this particular Love Inc is J. Berger.

HAVING SAID THAT, I have a couple of Sheppard's _Techno Trip_ compilations and I will forever love the man for introducing me to "Who The F*ck Is James Brown?"

Dan Perry '08 (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 7 September 2004 15:30 (twenty years ago)

the love inc. on this comp is none other than wolfgang voight

tricky disco (disco stu), Tuesday, 7 September 2004 15:38 (twenty years ago)

holy shiiiiiit

Dave M. (rotten03), Tuesday, 7 September 2004 15:40 (twenty years ago)

stop making dancey dance => start making microhouse????

Dave M. (rotten03), Tuesday, 7 September 2004 15:43 (twenty years ago)

Huh? What about J. Berger (who, by the different spelling of the last name, is not Jorg Burger aka The Modernist, or so I assume?)

Barry Bruner (Barry Bruner), Tuesday, 7 September 2004 15:46 (twenty years ago)

next thing they'll tell me Chris Sheppard is in Martini Bros.

Dave M. (rotten03), Tuesday, 7 September 2004 15:52 (twenty years ago)

http://www.kompaktkiste.de/bionaut.htm

J. Berger was in Love Inc along with Wolfie Baby.

Dan Perry '08 (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 7 September 2004 15:52 (twenty years ago)

wolfie baby!

tricky disco (disco stu), Tuesday, 7 September 2004 16:20 (twenty years ago)

also (and this is being utterly pedantic) mr. voight doesn't make microhouse

tricky disco (disco stu), Tuesday, 7 September 2004 16:25 (twenty years ago)

that's a great track - not as good as RESPECT tho.
the best track rising high ever put out was transform by transformations, btw.

stelfox, Tuesday, 7 September 2004 17:44 (twenty years ago)

every time dan does this kind of thing i find it seems to weirdly coincide with nostalgic phase for the early 90's i too am experiencing at the time.

whats that? i'm always in a nostalgic phase?

gaz (gaz), Tuesday, 7 September 2004 21:11 (twenty years ago)

i own all of these on 12"

Actually I have nearly all the back catalogue of Risng High
I actually love Mihon ... If i replug my system or move house
this is the fist 12" that goes on the platter

espresso fetish (espresso fetish), Tuesday, 7 September 2004 22:18 (twenty years ago)

I got Pioneers of the Warped Acid on 12" from a 50p bin about a month ago along with another Hypnotist 12". Yesterday I got Stars by Sylvester from the same bin. I like that bin...

Raw Patrick (Raw Patrick), Tuesday, 7 September 2004 22:24 (twenty years ago)

I love bins

It is like treasure hunting LOL

espresso fetish (espresso fetish), Tuesday, 7 September 2004 22:30 (twenty years ago)

gaz and dan on the same menstrual cycle?

Dave M. (rotten03), Tuesday, 7 September 2004 23:58 (twenty years ago)

I miss the lofi sounds of the early 90's
My studio is full of that era gear & I love their noises

I have only bought a small amount of new 12" in the last few years
As there is such a wealth of 12"s out there

I was reading an article only yesterday about the death of records......again

They were saying that more people are changing from 12"s to cd and then cd's to mp3....

I really hope that more people sell there records....
All the more for me

espresso fetish (espresso fetish), Wednesday, 8 September 2004 00:21 (twenty years ago)

i own all of these on 12"

Dan Perry '08 (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 8 September 2004 00:45 (twenty years ago)

what sounds do you like to spin?

espresso fetish (espresso fetish), Wednesday, 8 September 2004 00:46 (twenty years ago)

I don't actually spin. I'm just salivating over the remixes for my own personal use.

Dan Perry '08 (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 8 September 2004 00:52 (twenty years ago)

IF I DID SPIN I would be all over the Rising High catalogue, though. Also the breakbeat stuff from Suburban Base, XL and Moving Shadow.

Dan Perry '08 (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 8 September 2004 00:54 (twenty years ago)

yep i dont dj either
i just presumed it from your email address
I just know what I like, then ... own it, it's like
a 12" library sometimes
if you like Rising High do you also like Harthouse...

I have a a little bit of Moving Shadow

espresso fetish (espresso fetish), Wednesday, 8 September 2004 00:59 (twenty years ago)

Question: will Djax-Up Beats ever be covetable?

I am surprised that people feel nostalgic for Rising High cos I always associate the label (perhaps wrongly) with Sven Vath snooze-fests...

Jacob (Jacob), Wednesday, 8 September 2004 09:54 (twenty years ago)

That's a little later. Early Rising High is ravetastic, mental and totally up for it. Yet somehow modernist and minimal, so not too tasteless. And when I think of early Rising High, I think of The Hypnotist and Ongaku. Espresso Fetish kindly gave me a compilation of early Hypnotist tracks including House Is Mine. This music MUST NOT BE LOST for we will never hear its kind again.

the music mole (colin s barrow), Wednesday, 8 September 2004 10:04 (twenty years ago)

wrongly Jacob

interspersed with my rising high trip (who should be lionised for the cover to chill out or die II alone)http://www.kompaktkiste.de/cd/_label/rsn/rsncd17.jpg

LOL
I have this on 12"
And I thought the same thing.....

What is the caustic window one you are talking about?

espresso fetish (espresso fetish), Thursday, 9 September 2004 00:01 (twenty years ago)

not rising high, not even really similar. they're 94-ish i think. i found them in the back of my cupboard and can't remember anything about them. sort of acid-y house from the uk. just wondering where they fit in.

gaz (gaz), Thursday, 9 September 2004 00:17 (twenty years ago)

i'm an idiot. caustic vision. not aphex.

gaz (gaz), Thursday, 9 September 2004 00:27 (twenty years ago)

LOL

I was thinking geeeez
this guy goes from listening to ambient to banging head case trauma!

I had a look at
http://www.discogs.com/label/Caustic+Vision

I don't know too many of these to comment

espresso fetish (espresso fetish), Thursday, 9 September 2004 00:56 (twenty years ago)

this guy goes from listening to ambient to banging head case trauma!

gaz (gaz), Thursday, 9 September 2004 01:20 (twenty years ago)

i like to listen to the sounds of the ocean .....

espresso fetish (espresso fetish), Thursday, 9 September 2004 01:27 (twenty years ago)

gaz (gaz), Thursday, 9 September 2004 01:28 (twenty years ago)

Quoth - Bike Pump Meets Bucket

espresso fetish (espresso fetish), Thursday, 9 September 2004 01:57 (twenty years ago)

Holy fuck this comp is amazing. The Love Inc track ownz the whole album though - they shoulda put it further in cos the rest is a slight let-down.

But I'd forgotten how ecstatic this stuff was! I'd always thought early 90s european techno that was pretty sounding rather than dirty R&S belgian hoovernoises or 'ardkore was proto-idm bollocks, but this totally disproves that thesis.
