Oh, next week is Nick Drake's second single!

It's "River Man"

Backed with a "Demo version" of the same track.

And then the "Nick Drake" greatest hits album, as now he will have had two chart entries (in all probability, this one being his most well known track). The phrase "John Otway" springs to mind...

Anyhow, there is a Tim Pope "film" as an extra on the CD single.

But you have to get the seven inch too. It looks nice. oh and the demo version is only on the seven inch.

Breaking news: the CD single has a version of "Day is done" instead.

Sit down, you guys.

OK.

Its by Nora Jones and the Charlie Hunter Band.

Elektra ought to put out a Tim Buckley single in the same week. Then we could have an epic battle for the number 89 slot!

Look, I know what you're thinking. Oh no another Nick Drake thread.

But! Nora Jones as the b-side? WFT? TFW? or, ay?

Perhaps she's the reincarnation of Nick Drake. Or maybe the marketing people are getting desperate. Perhaps they should put Busted or DJ Casper on there as well, as a bonus track.

The third single:
A-side: "Black Eyed Dog (Remix)" (additional vocals by Sharleen Spiteri)
B-side: Mark Morrison "Return Of The Mack."

Curt1s St3ph3ns, Wednesday, 8 September 2004 21:35 (twenty-one years ago)

seriously wtf how many times is Nick Drake going to have a "revival"

Curt1s St3ph3ns, Wednesday, 8 September 2004 21:36 (twenty-one years ago)

I just can't see Nick as a singles artist in my head.

And I'm pissed.

^ agreed

Curt1s St3ph3ns, Wednesday, 8 September 2004 21:54 (twenty-one years ago)

anyway, so I go into the local HMV for the single, and bloke says "Oh someone came in this morning and bought all seven copies".

So, CD single only.

mark grout (mark grout), Tuesday, 14 September 2004 07:03 (twenty-one years ago)

Seven copies - that should be enough to get it into the top 30.

Donnie Smith The Quiz Kid, Tuesday, 14 September 2004 07:25 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah but I think any more than the 'number of formats' times 'self and one other person' = disallowed for chart return purposes.

mark grout (mark grout), Tuesday, 14 September 2004 07:37 (twenty-one years ago)

Do you remember the good old days when every single had to be on 7" to qualify for the singles chart, such that "Atmosphere" by Joy Division sold something like 400,000 copies but was disqualified from the chart on the grounds that it was available on 12" only? IIRC they relaxed the rules for "Lay All Your Love On Me" by Abba the following year (1981) and then obviously "Blue Monday" after that.

Donnie Smith The Quiz Kid, Tuesday, 14 September 2004 07:42 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh and they also had a policy of a minimum retail price for a single in order to qualify for the chart (79p I think it was) which the BMRB deliberately set up to prevent people like Crass, with their 49p singles, from charting embarrassingly high on a regular basis.

Donnie Smith The Quiz Kid, Tuesday, 14 September 2004 07:44 (twenty-one years ago)

It also prevented Johnathan King from charting with his rubbish flexidiscs (One a takeoff of the smurfs, another the voice of the yorkshire ripper that was eventually found to be fake)

Bloody hell I remember that! "Lick A Smurf For Christmas" by Father Abrafart and the Smurps! HAHAHAHAHA! FUNN-EEEE!!!!
