I have a sampler/interview disc for it. The only full track on there is his cover of Pulp's "Common People." I'm pretty shocked first of all that I want to listen to the whole thing, but also because I think it might be good.

Talent Explosion (Talent Explosion), Wednesday, 8 September 2004 18:10 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm currently obsessed with the song he did with Ben Folds "Fear Of Pop".

Perfect delivery, really gorgeous slow burner.

I have high hopes for this album

Hari Ashurst (Toaster), Wednesday, 8 September 2004 18:13 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm pretty excited, I guess.

Kevin Gilchrist (Mr Fusion), Wednesday, 8 September 2004 18:13 (twenty-one years ago)

YES.

Sean M (Sean M), Wednesday, 8 September 2004 19:42 (twenty-one years ago)

Howard Stern previewed some of it (and mercilessly mocked it) on his show yesterday. Sorta abysmal, but it a way that actually has me wanting to own it. Difficult to explain.

Raymond Cummings (Raymond Cummings), Thursday, 9 September 2004 14:34 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm more excited about the fact that there will be a show on tv soon which will star Shatner and James Spader. That's genius casting!

Matthew Perpetua (Matthew Perpetua), Thursday, 9 September 2004 14:46 (twenty-one years ago)

What, that Practice spin-off? Never watched the Practice but this sounds enticing. I watch so many other shows at this point though that I'll probably never get around to seeing it.

Raymond Cummings (Raymond Cummings), Thursday, 9 September 2004 14:49 (twenty-one years ago)

I always hated the Practice, but the idea of a show which is almost all Spader and Shatner sounds too weird and smarmy to not try out a few times.

Matthew Perpetua (Matthew Perpetua), Thursday, 9 September 2004 14:59 (twenty-one years ago)

I heard some of it on Stern too, and was just falling out of my chair. Howard of course doesn't know any of the original tunes, so the conclusion was that Bill had just LOST IT! 'I want to sleep with common people.'

i am eagerly awaiting this treasure

I'm currently obsessed with the song he did with Ben Folds "Fear Of Pop".

I love the radio remix for that song ("In Love").

billstevejim, Friday, 10 September 2004 03:27 (twenty-one years ago)

I think that's the one i'm obsessed with. Oh god it's so hot right now.

For those of you with no moral compass, it is up for downlad at the site above...

Kevin Gilchrist (Mr Fusion), Thursday, 16 September 2004 12:27 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh, you might have to sign up...

Kevin Gilchrist (Mr Fusion), Thursday, 16 September 2004 12:28 (twenty-one years ago)

"It's a song about a guy who's in a relationship with this girl and he's angry because of her attitude. I haven't heard any other Pulp but have been told I should."

Shatner sums up "Common People" in this month's Uncut.

Donnie Smith The Quiz Kid, Thursday, 16 September 2004 12:45 (twenty-one years ago)

Nice.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 16 September 2004 13:38 (twenty-one years ago)

"It's a song about a guy who's in a relationship with this girl and he's angry because of her attitude."

This is maybe a description of half the songs ever written.

Kevin Gilchrist (Mr Fusion), Thursday, 16 September 2004 14:00 (twenty-one years ago)

Man, the album version of Common People is so much better than the version I had heard.

Kevin Gilchrist (Mr Fusion), Thursday, 16 September 2004 14:03 (twenty-one years ago)

I really want the song 'Has Been' to come out as a single and to get to number one.

They could easily have 'Common People' as a candidate for the Christmas number one in the UK, it's spot on for that type of thing.

James Mitchell (James Mitchell), Friday, 17 September 2004 11:53 (twenty-one years ago)

So Pulp only makes it to number 2 while Shatner's cover could be number 1? There's a fun weird logic there.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 17 September 2004 11:57 (twenty-one years ago)

Well, it'd probably only have to sell a fifth of the amount of copies since the singles market is so screwy...

James Mitchell (James Mitchell), Friday, 17 September 2004 12:03 (twenty-one years ago)

Just because of a bunch of grannies going out and buying that fucking karaoke record by the Singing Squaddies...

Donnie Smith The Quiz Kid, Friday, 17 September 2004 13:12 (twenty-one years ago)

Then again, Shatner getting to number one would make up for "Star Trekkin'" by the Firm getting to number one in 1987 (are we going to hear that one at the next Club Popular then? Altogether now: "Ye cannae change the laws of physics LAWS OF PHYSICS laws of physics...").

Donnie Smith The Quiz Kid, Friday, 17 September 2004 13:13 (twenty-one years ago)

Shatner says 'And the chip stain's grease will come out in the bath' instead of '...chip stains and grease...'.

Although, nicely, it still makes sense.

James Mitchell (James Mitchell), Friday, 17 September 2004 19:53 (twenty-one years ago)

I just watched the first hour or so of Judgment at Nuremberg, and Shatner is in like every second shot. I'm going to make up a Shatner at Nuremberg drinking game for the rest of it.

Eoin Quigley (Eoin), Saturday, 18 September 2004 01:28 (twenty-one years ago)

two weeks pass...
holy shit "trying" with ben folds is fucking great great great....

Professor Challenger (ex machina), Tuesday, 5 October 2004 02:42 (twenty-one years ago)

i should go buy this tommorow

Hari Ashurst (Toaster), Tuesday, 5 October 2004 12:03 (twenty-one years ago)

This is puerile, but why did Leonard Nimoy's wife leave the party? Because William Shatner.

Piers (piers), Tuesday, 12 October 2004 02:53 (twenty-one years ago)

...Christopher Walken!!!1

Oh wai

Gear! (Gear!), Saturday, 16 October 2004 03:17 (twenty-one years ago)

None more elegant.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 16 October 2004 03:54 (twenty-one years ago)

I just downloaded his performance of Rocket Man at I think the 77 sci-fi movie awards and it is unreal. Absolutely something that everyone should see before they die.

jsk baby (jsk baby), Saturday, 16 October 2004 04:04 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah, it's fantastic isn't it? I like the drunk Shatner that splits off from him at the end, assuming it's the same one.

Kevin Gilchrist (Mr Fusion), Saturday, 16 October 2004 04:07 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh god the whole thing is just so perfectly surreal.

It was actually an episode of Family Guy where Stewie does a DEAD ON impression of this that jogged my memory and sent me dashing to the internet to find the original.
