i would love to know what certain people here consider their favourites from these decades, especially if like me they tended to ignore them in the past but have since schooled themselves sufficiently. i'm looking for personalised Rough Guide type compilations from people that will both empthasise the greatness of the universal classics and also learn me the gems that tend to be overlooked by the critical masses. i'm excited by the range potential too. go now.

Do they have to fit together as a good mix, or do you just want our favourite 20 tracks or whatever?

Alba (Alba), Friday, 10 September 2004 11:26 (twenty-one years ago)

I was going to suggest doing 2 cd's as the 60's is just so big and sprawling a resource that the 50's would be marginalized.

Billy Dods (Billy Dods), Friday, 10 September 2004 11:38 (twenty-one years ago)

sorry i did actually mean separate CDs for each decade

the neurotic awakening of s (blueski), Friday, 10 September 2004 11:39 (twenty-one years ago)

That's just 60s.

50s will be easier to cut down.

Alba (Alba), Friday, 10 September 2004 11:40 (twenty-one years ago)

the neurotic awakening of s (blueski), Friday, 10 September 2004 11:40 (twenty-one years ago)

I will whittle it down, sorry. I just had that list to hand and was over eager.

in the meantime, the following two Matos threads (from the very first batch of Top 100 threads before things got silly) sort of answer your question. Certainly, if I ever acquire my own PC I'll probably download all the songs on these lists that I don't know

Top 100 Singles of the 50s, Doggie Style
