I recently picked up The Mountain Goats Protein Souce for The Future NOW and love it, what should I buy next of theirs?

Serious answer: Coroner's Gambit

― roxymuzak (roxymuzak), Saturday, 11 September 2004 15:49 (twenty-two years ago)

Hey now, that's mean. (xpost)

Jim, try the other two compilations as well, Bitter Melon Farm and Ghana, plus his three most recent albums, All Hail West Texas, Tallahassee and We Shall All Be Healed. Coroner's is mighty cool too.

Yeah, Bitter Melon Farm is probably the best recommendation, actually.

Does anyone else have Isopanisad Radio Hour?

xpost, I know. That was retarded.

Tallahassee and All Hail West Texas are amazing, though I think if you like PTFTFN you might lean more towards the older records: Zopilote Machine is the best MG record all around, and I like Sweden better than Coroner's Gambit or Full Force Galesburg.

If you like Franklin Bruno, too, Martial Arts Weekend by the Extra Glenns (= Mountain Goats + Bruno.) "Going to Marrakesh." Yes. Yes. Yes.

By the way, this review of Martial Arts Weekend is possibly the wrongest thing I have ever read.

There are few threads in the archives, this is the probably the one best suited to your request:

The Mountain Goats

I think his records have gotten better with each release, so I'd stay all hail, tallahassee, and we shall all be healed.

there's not a overwhelming amount of variety, which is not a bad thing, but means you can pick up most any of the records and probably be happy. although i i haven't heard anything since 'nothing for juice' which i bought cause graeme jefferies was on it.

I've only got WSABH, Tallahassee, and The Coroner's Gambit, and the knowledge that there are at least 5 more albums of the same out there excites me to no end. There are so few bands I'm into whose complete dicographies aren't in my house that to have something to collect, finally, makes me quite happy.
