Bevis Frond?

Has anyone heard the more recent Bevis Frond material? I kinda lost touch with what they (well, Nick) were up to after Inner Marshland -- are the last several albums worth picking up?

The most recent one I heard was What Did For the Dinosaurs and I used to give North Circular a fair amount of play. Isn't there a new one out (or about to be out)?

totally overrated band / guy

I kinda find the guy's later albums identical. By far the one I play most often (though not all that often) is New River Head.

I'm a huge fan. My two favorite recent (ie, post-1990) records are Son of Walter and North Circular, in order of preference. I like the home-recorded stuff more than the full band. If you're a fan of Triptych and Inner Marshland, get Son of Walter. If you like it, go from there...

roger OTM, some of the early stuff is okay - but just okay.

There's a lot of ground to cover between Inner Marshland & now. You should definitley check out New River Head, his best work, IMHO. Also, North Circular is excellent. Sprawl is very much like the early ones from the Marshland era, though perhaps not as consistently great. It Just Is may be the one to avoid, as it is the only Frond disc to pretty much leave me cold. Otherwise, they all have a great deal to offer.

The Bevis Frond formula is one or two great psych-pop tunes and maybe one great rocker per record, plus a bunch of psych-jam stuff that is either filler or intermittently enjoyable depending on your perspective.

New River Head has three or four great psych-pop tunes and one or two great rockers, especially with the extra material from A Gathering Of Fronds tacked on for CD people ("Down In The Well"), so it is far and away the best record.

five years pass...

Nick Salomon is now curating the excellent compilation label Psychic Circle. Their discs are chock-full of terrific tunes & the packaging is pretty sweet too.

Yeah but there was a recent interview where he said that he was a little frustrated by the setup, where the business folks at the label were thinking that there could be endless compilations just like that and he was all "Uh, it's a finite pool of actually worthwhile stuff!" Some of the comps have varied but the most recent one I heard was excellent.
