How many different JD/NO versions of Ceremony are there out there?

I'm assuming that the only two Joy Division versions are the live one on Still and the demo on Heart & Soul. As for New Order, I have the one on substance and I hear that there are at least 2 other studio versions, one sung by Morris, is this true?

this isnt much help, but one of the other 2 versions is on the fac33 7". I believe the one on substance is the version they recorded once gillian joined the band.

Yeah, those are the five that I know of--the Fac 33 7" is slightly different sounding. Some prefer it to the original, I think they're about equal. The Morris demo is of extraordinarily shitty quality but it's interesting as a curiosity.

I can send you both if you want.

I always thought there were only two New Order versions of the song: the original FAC33 seven-inch and the one on Substance. Where's number three?

the morris demo, it's bootlegged.

I always prefered the Xiu Xiu version more.

Nope, when it comes to "Ceremony",
NO > Galaxie 500 > Xiu Xiu

(although all three are great in their own ways)

i did finally hear the first version of ceremony last night. I'd kind of built up a lot of expectations for it in my head, it being essentially a last JD recording (by which I mean, JD principles and no Gillian), but I found it disappointing and kind of lifeless compared to the Gillian version, which I adore.

Was the version of Little Boy(in a lonely place) on the 7" different as well?

its shorter

We covered Ceremony here : The best song ever recorded in the history of humankind was "Everything's Gone Green" by New Order. Bill is right, there are 5 versions.

There are 3 versions of IALP :

The 7", and 2 versions of the 12" with different thunderclap effects. I'll try and figure out which is which fwiw, but they're essentially the same.

one year passes...
I appreciate the thread debating the relative merits of Everything's Gone Green, but the fact remains that Ceremony is the most amazing NO song EVA. And that somehow the Galaxie 500 cover is just not good. Am I taking crazy pills? It's like really slow and neil young-y and just..not any damn good. dammit.

neil. young-y?

I have the NO Substance Version, the NO 7" Version, and the JD Still version online at this link:

Let me know if I'm right about these three. I'm pretty certain about the Substance and JD versions, but the 7" may not be what I think it is.

"Neil young-y", I guess meaning languid and high-pitched...sort of rustic sounding, at least in comparison to other versions I have (NO from Substance and JD from Still).
