SHOULD I RIP THIS?

I keep seeing this everywhere after it was in some UK paper (?) but the thing that bothers me is they obviously mean "download" or "copy" instead of "rip." When I think of ripping a cd, it usually means I have a physical copy and am making a copy of it. Is this my misunderstanding or do they not get it?
