It's out (in the UK) on the 27th of September! This time it's pink! and the titles are all file-sharing networks! Super Discount was so great but I don't really know anything about this one yet, and I'd really like to!

When Super Discount came out clearly it was pretty much riding the crest of Homework a bit and so became synonymous with the ushering-in of lots of other magnifique! (etc) records, and this one isn't, really. Is the comparative lack of context this time around going to result in this being released into a big vacuum of indifference? Is it okay to be excited about it primarily because it has a really nice sleeve?

i loved the concept of the first one and this new one seems equally smart (downloading really is a super discount DYS) - no idea what it will sound like but can't wait to find out

it's pretty good.

I only like two tracks: Grokster and Soul Seek, both by Etienne de Crécy, and neither is up to the level of the first album.

JoB (JoB), Tuesday, 14 September 2004 12:28 (twenty-one years ago)

the tracks i have heard so far have been acid / electro house. not bad but nothing that will resonate years down the line and nothing as original as some of the music on the first super discount.

How does it compare to Tempovision? How do people feel Tempovision compared to the first Super Discount? (I have just rediscovered Tempovision after not hearing it for about three years, hence my curiosity) (I may be derailing my own thread a bit here also but never mind eh)

Alex in Doncaster (Alex in Doncaster), Tuesday, 14 September 2004 13:28 (twenty-one years ago)

i like about half of Tempovision a lot esp. Relax, When Jack Met Jill and Noname - i'd put those on a par with the Super Discount tracks but then Super Discount did have a few iffy bits (wasn't so keen on 'Total Liquidation' for example)

the neurotic awakening of s (blueski), Tuesday, 14 September 2004 13:32 (twenty-one years ago)

you got g-mail, stevem.

jed_ (jed), Tuesday, 14 September 2004 13:34 (twenty-one years ago)

i sure have, thanks aplenty!

the neurotic awakening of s (blueski), Tuesday, 14 September 2004 13:36 (twenty-one years ago)

it's got nothing on the first. it's pretty ordinary actually. couple of goodish tracks where u go 'ooh hello...' but ultimately a bit of a cheat, as it doesn't have the 'various artists' vibe going on like the last one. how, i'd like to know, does this differ to a normal ettiene de crecy album?

but yeah i like the sleeve too.

piscesboy, Tuesday, 14 September 2004 14:37 (twenty-one years ago)

Scratched is the other great track off Tempovision. I remember looking at different charts around Europe on MTV Text a couple of years back and the eponymous title track from the De Crecy album was bizarrely a top ten hit in Hungary.

Okay, so in actual fact the sleeve is less pastel and more violently fluorescent than in the above picture; also I have downloaded it and sporadic plays over the last week have led me to think that maybe this is no so much "not as good" as it is "not interesting at all and really flat and monotonous throughout except for the first track which is a bit more playful than the rest and good clean squirty kind-of-fun".

The whole sounds like the kind of thing that I could end up being either really well-inclined towards or not at ALL depending on whether I feel like actively lavishing time and attention on it (i.e. I would probably think it was great if I was more familiar with it and knew precisely when each track would do its little noteworthy thing or whatever) or not. At the moment I don't.

don't you just think music of this sort has lost any real point now? only Ronan could disagree, surely.

jed_ (jed), Saturday, 2 October 2004 20:08 (twenty-one years ago)

(forgot the winky)

jed_ (jed), Saturday, 2 October 2004 20:09 (twenty-one years ago)

Isn't "Call On Me" like the number one record in Britain?

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Saturday, 2 October 2004 20:16 (twenty-one years ago)

haha Jed you curmudgeon. I actually like the first Super Discount but prefer Tempovision any day. I've not heard Super Discount 2 yet.

Ronan (Ronan), Saturday, 2 October 2004 20:30 (twenty-one years ago)

"Relax" is my favorite - the bassline is beautiful (see also Sebastien Tellier's "Wonderafrica").

this is so much better than the first Super Discount record!

Ronan (Ronan), Tuesday, 19 October 2004 21:25 (twenty-one years ago)

and also as regards relevence etc blah blah blah, it's actually surprisingly fresh.

Ronan (Ronan), Tuesday, 19 October 2004 21:25 (twenty-one years ago)

highlights? should i buy this?

s1ocki (slutsky), Tuesday, 19 October 2004 21:29 (twenty-one years ago)

Fastrack, I can't believe nobody has mentioned Fastrack!

Ronan (Ronan), Tuesday, 19 October 2004 21:32 (twenty-one years ago)

I totally agree with Jed btw, that music like Super Discount 1 has lost any real point by now, but this isn't like Super Discount 1, which has aged terribly in any case.

Ronan (Ronan), Tuesday, 19 October 2004 21:33 (twenty-one years ago)

what kinda stuff was on the first one?

s1ocki (slutsky), Tuesday, 19 October 2004 21:35 (twenty-one years ago)

it's sort of french house/air type stuff.

Ronan (Ronan), Tuesday, 19 October 2004 21:37 (twenty-one years ago)

I liked the first one, haven't heard it in years, though.

adam. (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 19 October 2004 21:43 (twenty-one years ago)

I think the original SD was where I first heard Air. Don't they have a track on it or am I mistaken?

adam. (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 19 October 2004 21:44 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah there's a sort of remix of "All I Need".

"Fastrack" off the new one is like the DFA meets Laurent Garnier.

Ronan (Ronan), Tuesday, 19 October 2004 21:44 (twenty-one years ago)

three months pass...
So, I'm giving this a first listen...and loving every second! This would have been in my top 10 list for sure
