To me Prophet's doing the smoky soul/rock fusion thang that Joe Henry gets all the credit for, but with grit and guts Henry hasn't touched in years (if ever).
This one and the new Jon Dee Graham (also New West) are the best 40-something-white-guitar-dude records I've heard lately
