The Czars Lullabye 6000 is utterly lovely.

As is the Dears album.

Lift to Experience is amazing

Avi (Avi), Wednesday, 15 September 2004 13:58 (twenty-one years ago)

did bella union do the early lines? cuz they're totally great.

Yanc3y (ystrickler), Wednesday, 15 September 2004 14:08 (twenty-one years ago)

they put out explosions in the sky everywhere but the US so good for them. also girl who does the band relations there is a dear (that's just in case she reads this)!

kyle (akmonday), Wednesday, 15 September 2004 14:13 (twenty-one years ago)

Garlic are on Bella Union and I love them.

I really liked 'The Texas - Jerusalem Crossroads', but LTE were kind of disappointing live for me. Are they even still going?

aldo_cowpat (aldo_cowpat), Wednesday, 15 September 2004 14:21 (twenty-one years ago)

I think LTE's frontman has been doing a solo/acoustic thing lately, but I haven't really sought out any more info. When I saw em play in Oakland just after his wife died, they were amazing.

Devics, another BU band, opened and were pretty good as well.

Avi (Avi), Wednesday, 15 September 2004 15:42 (twenty-one years ago)

i don't get into Devics all that much. but LTE are hella awesome. such a huge sound.

the surface noise (slight return) (electricsound), Wednesday, 15 September 2004 22:29 (twenty-one years ago)

You could have gotten the (cowboy) boot sent to one LTE member from the singer kicking him out of the band off Ebay.

I'm shocked that anyone outside of TX has heard of the Early Lines (or anyone inside of TX).

New Czars album just released!!!

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Wednesday, 15 September 2004 22:42 (twenty-one years ago)

apparently there's a solo album from josh (main lte guys), but i have no idea what's happened to it. it was supposed to come out last year, iirc.

lauren (laurenp), Wednesday, 15 September 2004 22:51 (twenty-one years ago)

spencer chow is thanked on the new czars album. it sounds a bit like a solo john grant album, no bad thing, it's much more cheerful than the last one.
devics and czars are very similar, i think, devics songwriter guy dustin o'halloran has a solo album out soon.

keith m (keithmcl), Thursday, 16 September 2004 02:19 (twenty-one years ago)

LTE is fucking brilliant

cutty (mcutt), Thursday, 16 September 2004 02:22 (twenty-one years ago)

a friend from texas played me the early lines, milo. i wrote a piece about them way back when. i love hate the living love the dead.

Yanc3y (ystrickler), Thursday, 16 September 2004 02:25 (twenty-one years ago)

LTE and Devics justify the label's position in the universe, and Robin Guthrie did a nice solo album last year. There's a lot of averageness, mind. What people see in The Dears is beyond me

DJ Mencap0))), Thursday, 16 September 2004 08:19 (twenty-one years ago)

I thought josh lte had a drug problem? also didn't sack the drummer and bassist's wife died? his solo lp is meant to be an all acoustic affair too. lte wr good live when I saw them (tut's) and I still polish off the record now and again.

cºzen (Cozen), Thursday, 16 September 2004 16:30 (twenty-one years ago)

i think the robin guthrie solo record is fairly disappointing (as is violet indiana, although I do like the song Purr la Perla). he's in an unfortunate spot as I don't think anything he ever does is really going to be fully satisfying until cocteau twins break down and reform (if the pixies can do it, so can they).

kyle (akmonday), Thursday, 16 September 2004 16:37 (twenty-one years ago)

spencer chow is thanked on the new czars album.

Their website had a paypal donation page because they needed help finishing the album - for $20 they put your name in the notes and send you a copy. I'm completely baffled as to why they had to resort to that and why aren't much more popular.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Thursday, 16 September 2004 16:56 (twenty-one years ago)

I thought josh lte had a drug problem? also didn't sack the drummer and bassist's wife died?

he did but he had supposedly battled it out. it's kind of confusing, but i think the bassist's wife died and also josh's girlfriend/wife. drummer was sacked, not exactly an amiable parting.

his solo lp is meant to be an all acoustic affair too.

yes. the solo set i saw him do was beyond intense. now i'm really wondering what happened to the record. lte were likewise incredible the couple of times that i saw them, but i think the album doesn't do justice.

lauren (laurenp), Thursday, 16 September 2004 18:20 (twenty-one years ago)

yeah, a lot of ppl say tht, I still like the album a lot though and think I might go listen to it right now. great use of darkness when I saw them, the singer emerging with his guitar from a silhouette of smoke.

cºzen (Cozen), Thursday, 16 September 2004 18:33 (twenty-one years ago)

yeah i saw that. the czars play here in denver all of the time, they have decent support but most people in denver are unaware of their existence and they're frustrating live because they will play the quiet ones but all of the yappers at the bar always ruin everyone else's night. john grant's voice should be a national treasure, i think i always say that. i am liking the czars album more and more each time i listen, 'the hymn' is amazing, sara lov's part just kills me. i should have donated 1000 dollars then i could have had them play my apartment.

keith m (keithmcl), Friday, 17 September 2004 00:40 (twenty-one years ago)

They were tour support for David Gray of all people a few years back, over here. Doesn't sound like it was worth their while, really

DJ Mencap0))), Friday, 17 September 2004 07:51 (twenty-one years ago)

two years pass...
Revive. A new (for me) discovery is Lisa Dewey, and so far Busk is really amazing, this dark moodout of an album with serene, lovely vocals.

Ned Raggett, Sunday, 13 May 2007 20:42 (eighteen years ago)

emsk, Tuesday, 10 July 2007 09:17 (eighteen years ago)

six years pass...

Simon Raymonde's got his first new album out since that solo one back in the late 1990s -- a duo with Stephanie Dosen (named just above). Anyway, my Pitchfork review:
