Stone Roses.

Jimmybommy JimmyK'KANG (Nick Southall), Wednesday, 15 September 2004 14:11 (twenty-one years ago)

I don't know Blue Nile but Stone Roses and Jeff Buckley must have at least 30 songs to their name, surely? There must be someone out there who only ever did ten or something. Rodriguez, who's not well known in the UK or US but who was massive in Australasia and South Africa only ever did one album I think and probably only wrote about 15 songs.

In NZ the easy answer is Darcy Clay. A top 10 chart hit, NZ music award for 'Most promising new artist' in 1998, and a grand total of 6 recorded songs, one of which was a cover (Dolly Parton's 'Joelene'). He self-recorded the single 'Jesus i was evil' as a demo for student radio, found himself at the top of the charts, released the 6 song ep of the same name and was asked to play support for Blur at their single NZ show.
He was found dead just a couple weeks later, with the Blur support show (one of only 5 actual live performances) released as a post-humous ep - the same set as the studio ep. all 10 recorded tracks were later compiled into an anthology.

chris andrews (fraew), Thursday, 16 September 2004 02:37 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm one of those artless mopes who discount demos, outtakes, "lost gems" and other such scrapings, even if the artist is alive in many cases
Nick Drake and Biggie haven't been mentioned, so I assume I'm in the minority.

Jeff Buckley? the live at sin'e expanded set has 21 songs. Add in the 'sweetheart the drunk' set and that's quite a lot...

mark grout (mark grout), Thursday, 16 September 2004 08:43 (twenty-one years ago)

There are plenty of reasonably well-known artists who only recorded one album. Are there any who didn't even get that far, who only recorded one or two singles or one EP? I don't count MARRS because it was just a side project for a bunch of people who have significant bodies of work.

fred shed, Thursday, 16 September 2004 08:58 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm not sure about the 'respected' part.. but Crosby Stills and Nash have been milking two records for 30 years.

Minor Threat?

Boston has 4 or 5 albums. They're not even in competition. (Only 1.5 good ones I'm guessing from their live show but that doesn't count, does it?)

sundar subramanian (sundar), Saturday, 25 September 2004 23:05 (twenty-one years ago)

Dammit, Tonton Macoute are hardly "reasonably well-known" or "well-respected" :(

but they had like 50+ recorded songs, including 2 full charting albums.. doesn't really conform to the 'smallest repetoire' element of the q
