Avril Lavigne, Sum 41’s Deryck Whibley engaged, London report says
LONDON (CP) — Avril Lavigne and Sum 41 frontman Deryck Whibley have become engaged, according to a report in the London Sun.
The newspaper reported that Whibley, 24, got down on one knee while in California last weekend.
Lavigne, who turns 20 on Sept. 27, started dating Whibley earlier this year.
“They haven’t set a date yet but they want to walk up the aisle next year,” a friend told the Sun.
The couple recently bought a house together in Santa Monica, Calif. Lavigne is from Napanee, Ont., and Whibley comes from Ajax, Ont.

NB: I believe it's the London, ONTARIO Sun.

Variations on a theme:

Jessica Simpson to star as Daisy Duke in Dukes of Hazzard film
BEVERLY HILLS, Calif. (AP) — Pop starlet Jessica Simpson has been cast as Daisy Duke in the film version of The Dukes of Hazzard, and her husband is pretty excited about it.
“I was a big fan of Daisy Duke. Growing up as a kid I never missed an episode of The Dukes of Hazzard,” Nick Lachey told reporters Tuesday, according to AP Radio. “We watched it every Friday night. It’s going to be cool to kind of live it all over again as she goes and does this movie.”
Lachey said Simpson really wanted the role and lobbied hard for the job.
Meanwhile, Lachey said he’s been doing some episodes of Charmed on the WB, and the couple are filming another ABC variety special that will air at Christmastime.
“Between the two of us, we’re doing some acting stuff now, between Charmed and Dukes of Hazzard. I did something for Bewitched, so it’s an exciting time in our house to be a thespian,” Lachey said.
Seann William Scott will star as Bo Duke and Johnny Knoxville will play Luke Duke in the movie.
The TV series aired from 1979-1985. Tom Wopat played Luke and John Schneider was Bo. Catherine Bach, who wore short-shorts that became her character’s trademark, was Daisy.
Fans loved to watch Bo and Luke outrun Sheriff Rosco P. Coltrane and his deputies by jumping their orange 1969 Dodge Charger — dubbed the General Lee — across creeks and off dirt ramps. They were the good guys, outwitting the corrupt Boss Hogg.

Whatever, they'll both be working at Dairy Queen by the end of the decade, hosting karaoke and wet t-shirt contests on the weekend.

What happened to Ben Stiller and Owen Wilson as them Duke boys?

nickalicious (nickalicious), Wednesday, 15 September 2004 16:08 (twenty-one years ago)

Me & my roommate were talking yesterday and decided that the best way to make a totally kick-ass Dukes of Hazzard movie would be to just edit Snoop Dogg and Dave Chappelle into clips from the original show.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Wednesday, 15 September 2004 16:12 (twenty-one years ago)

Like, in place of the Duke boys.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Wednesday, 15 September 2004 16:12 (twenty-one years ago)

Too homoerotic.

Vance and Coy.

Lavigne, Deryck Whibley not engaged despite report, says Sum 41 management
LONDON (CP) — Avril Lavigne and Sum 41 frontman Deryck Whibley are not engaged despite a report and photos in the London Sun.
The newspaper reported that Whibley, 24, got down on one knee while in California last weekend. It also ran a photo in which Lavigne appears to be showing a girlfriend a ring. “They haven’t set a date yet but they want to walk up the aisle next year,” a friend told the Sun.
But Whibley denies any plans to marry, according to a statement released by Sum 41’s management.
“Deryck Whibley of Sum 41 is not engaged,” it reads. “Deryck and his friends are constantly followed by paparazzi. The recent ‘breaking news’ that has been misconstrued around the world exemplifies the media’s constant invasion of people’s personal lives and reporting of unsubstantiated rumours and/or appearances.
“If there was a picture that captured Deryck kneeling, it was more likely him bending over to pick up the crack pipe that fell out of the paparazzi’s pocket than him making a proposal — looks like the joke’s on them.”
The band’s manager, Greig Nori, went one step further. He told MuchMusic that Whibley pretended to propose to Lavigne in full view of paparazzi just to show how easily it is to mislead the tabloids.
Lavigne, who turns 20 on Sept. 27, started dating Whibley earlier this year. The couple recently bought a house together in Santa Monica, Calif. Lavigne is from Napanee, Ont., and Whibley comes from Ajax, Ont.

Does Avril know she got PUNK'D by her boyfriend?

nickalicious (nickalicious), Wednesday, 15 September 2004 18:55 (twenty-one years ago)

Whenever someone says "looks like the joke's on them" it's usually not.

:D

Jimmy Mod, Man About Towne (ModJ), Wednesday, 15 September 2004 19:09 (twenty-one years ago)

Avril should marry Paul Simon. To hell with Edie Brickell.

By the by, there is no London, Ontario Sun.
The only daily newspaper in London, Ontario is the Free Press, which, funnily enough, is owned by Sun Media.

Bruce S. Urquhart (BanjoMania), Wednesday, 15 September 2004 19:35 (twenty-one years ago)

Hmmmmm...I thought London woulda had two papers. I lived there, briefly.

Huk-L, Wednesday, 15 September 2004 19:46 (twenty-one years ago)

Thanks for the correction though.

Huk-L, Wednesday, 15 September 2004 19:47 (twenty-one years ago)

The engagement: doesn't feel like a surprise. Plus I can't bring myself to care even a little bit.

Dukes Of Hazard: J.Simp aside (she grosses me out almost as much as Sarah Jessica Parker) I have the feeling this could be worth it in a perverse way.

Raymond Cummings (Raymond Cummings), Wednesday, 15 September 2004 19:49 (twenty-one years ago)

The thing is, the REAL Daisy Duke was HOT in a real, earthy, leggy way. J.Simp has all the sex appeal of my left hand. Oh, hello there.

They're not really engaged. That can't be true.
Avril should marry...actually, she shouldn't get married at all.

Nowell, Wednesday, 15 September 2004 20:29 (twenty-one years ago)

on Cex's site like 3 years ago he made a crack about how Avril and the singer from Sum 41 should get together and have Canadian punk rock superbabies.

Al (sitcom), Wednesday, 15 September 2004 20:36 (twenty-one years ago)

Isn't it ironic? As Avril's idol Alanis Morisette might say.

Avril Lavigne is prepared to get tough when needed: Maxim interview
TORONTO (CP) — Avril Lavigne says she loves beer and getting drunk.
“I just want to get wasted, dance and hang out,” she told Maxim magazine, listing her favourite drink as a double shot of Grey Goose vodka on the rocks.
“I’m growing up, I’m changing, I’m becoming a woman,” she said.
The 19-year-old singer, who grew up in Napanee, Ont., added she won’t stand for bad behaviour and is prepared to get tough if she needs to.
She told the magazine her last fight was with another woman who confronted her in a bar about her music.
“Some chick came up to me and got in my face and said something, so I kicked her in the (crotch) and shoved her,” she said.

I read the original quote; she said "box." Which is a word I haven't heard used in that way except by 50-year-old short-haul truck drivers, so that was kinda cool.

pdf (Phil Freeman), Thursday, 23 September 2004 17:49 (twenty-one years ago)

Dude, she's from Nepean, Ont. Where do you think those short-haul truckers learned it?
