Hahah. I always figured that friggin' twit was pushing the Irish thing a little TOO hard.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 16 September 2004 00:16 (twenty-one years ago)

Wow, this totally makes me want to hear Flogging Molly now! I bet they don't do anything that kicks half as hard as "Heft!," though...

chuck, Thursday, 16 September 2004 00:19 (twenty-one years ago)

Plus, two decades older, no way can he still hit the high notes.

chuck, Thursday, 16 September 2004 00:20 (twenty-one years ago)

Do you get a cultural studies half-credit by knowing who either one of those bands are?

peepee (peepee), Thursday, 16 September 2004 00:42 (twenty-one years ago)

Flogging Molly has one exactly good song - "Devil's Dance Floor." Tin flutes make everything OK.

miloauckerman (miloauckerman), Thursday, 16 September 2004 00:49 (twenty-one years ago)

I can't believe they're still around, actually. They were the big new thing the last time I went to a Warped Tour, which was 1999 or 2000. Every once in a while I'm floored by hearing that Less Than Jake or Reel Big Fish (or these guys) are still touring and putting out albums.

miloauckerman (miloauckerman), Thursday, 16 September 2004 00:51 (twenty-one years ago)

lucinda williams is on the new flogging molly. which i still haven't listened to even though i received it weeks ago cuz i'm kinda scared of it. and i did mention on a thread weeks ago that he was in Fastway! I deserve a prize! (i only knew that cuz it mentioned it in the promo sheet i got though.) i liked fastway videos.

scott seward (scott seward), Thursday, 16 September 2004 00:54 (twenty-one years ago)

I'd only be interested if they did a Celtic-twinged rendition of "Say What You Will".

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Thursday, 16 September 2004 00:56 (twenty-one years ago)

i remember fastway. wsou used to play them a lot in the late '80s.

stockholm cindy, montessori emo superstar (Jody Beth Rosen), Thursday, 16 September 2004 00:57 (twenty-one years ago)

"All Fired Up" was great (the song and the video)

Reed Moore (diamond), Thursday, 16 September 2004 00:58 (twenty-one years ago)

I saw Fastway open for AC/DC at the Garden on the Flick of the Switch.

Jesus, i sounds like Carl from Aqua Teen Hunger Force

I remember "Say What You Will" being on MTV a lot for a time in the mid-'80s.

shookout (shookout), Thursday, 16 September 2004 02:51 (twenty-one years ago)

...and it rocked.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Thursday, 16 September 2004 02:55 (twenty-one years ago)

viva checkerboard!

shookout (shookout), Thursday, 16 September 2004 02:56 (twenty-one years ago)

I bet they don't do anything that kicks half as hard as "Heft!," though...

you know that's the truth.

el sabor de gene (yournullfame), Thursday, 16 September 2004 03:11 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah, I was always surprised that Fastway didn't catch on bigger -- "Say What You Will" was on that thing *all* the time. Catchy.

Rickey Wright (Rrrickey), Thursday, 16 September 2004 03:17 (twenty-one years ago)

Chuck, no. Please believe me.

"Every once in a while I'm floored by hearing that Less Than Jake or Reel Big Fish (or these guys) are still touring and putting out albums."

I'm not so much floored as I am incredibly morose.

latebloomer (latebloomer), Thursday, 16 September 2004 07:01 (twenty-one years ago)

I think the new Flogging Molly disc is pretty good. Sounds *a lot* like the Pogues, with more guitars.

Josh in Chicago (Josh in Chicago), Thursday, 16 September 2004 13:18 (twenty-one years ago)

Flogging Molly also contains KICK ASS FORMER Professional Skateboarder Matt Hensley.

I've never heard them tho.

The word 'tautology' comes to mind.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 16 September 2004 13:31 (twenty-one years ago)

tau·tol·o·gy n
1. a redundant repetition of a meaning in a sentence or idea using different words
2. an instance of redundant repetition
3. a proposition or statement that, in itself, is logically true

Per number 3, I think it sounds like the Pogues, I like the Pogues, therefore I like the Flogging Molly just fine.

This fits in with my Waterworld theory. Is Waterworld a good movie? Not really. But it brazenly ripped off so much from The Road Warrior that I couldn't hate it.

Josh in Chicago (Josh in Chicago), Thursday, 16 September 2004 14:01 (twenty-one years ago)

He was also in Mama's Boys briefly, the very good Irish hard rock group featuring electric fiddle and a Lee Jeans sponsorship.

Fastway, "We Become One" -- DJ it.

Hey Ned, that "friggin' twit pushing the Irish thing a little TOO hard" you are referring to is a native of Dublin.

Marshall Stax (Marshall Stax), Thursday, 16 September 2004 15:29 (twenty-one years ago)

four years pass...

listening to the fastway album with the horrible, checkerboard cover that looks like a diner sign. fuckin great record, you could do way worse for a quarter.
