I can only hope and pray that there's a Wesley Willis song about the Ramones. Probably called "The Ramones".

the todster (the todster), Thursday, 16 September 2004 16:36 (twenty-one years ago)

"She had her picture in Rolling Stone,
she was third from the left behind Joey Ramone
(chorus) See her running around
she's the girl about town now you heard of..."

I was going to start a thread asking if someone could identify the above quoted song I heard on a college radio station 6 years ago, presumably titled "Girl About Town." It has indie girl vocals and a retro electro pop sound but I think it's credited to a solo artist.

herbert hebert (herbert hebert), Thursday, 16 September 2004 16:44 (twenty-one years ago)

Here you are, Shakey:

The Ramones
by Wesley Willis

You can really rock it out.
You are my special punk band.
You are the best in the long run.
You can really rock your ass off.

THE RAMONES!!!
THE RAMONES!!!
THE RAMONES!!!
THE RAMONES!!!

I love you a lot in the long run.
The Ramones is excellent.
I like you a lot in the long run.
You are the punk band king.

THE RAMONES!!!
THE RAMONES!!!
THE RAMONES!!!
THE RAMONES!!!

The Ramones really whoops a camel's ass.
You really whoop the horse's ass.
You are the punk band king.
The Ramones is excellent.

Rock over London,
Rock on Chicago.

Uh...

Milky Wimpshake: Chomsky V Ramones

Reading Noam Chomsky
while listening to the Ramones
makes perfect sense to me
because I reall need them both
I wanna read about media distortion
of US foreign policy
but I also need dumb stuff
like Joey, Johnny and Dee Dee
I need Noam Chomsky...and also the Ramones

Sitting in Queens
eating re-fried beans
could make it hard sometimes
to care about the Lebanese
And that's not an excuse
to shrug responsibilties
but we all need simple truths sometimes
Ramones provide that for me

I need Noam Chomsky...and also the Ramones

emil.y (emil.y), Thursday, 16 September 2004 21:12 (twenty-one years ago)

Great lyric, but uh . . . the Ramones were dumb?

T.C.P by the Boys off the "Alternative Blockbusters" album.I think the chorus goes something like this
"Johnny,Joey,Tommy,Dee Dee"
"T.C.P will keep you pimple free"
Ah for the days of short sweet silly pop.And by the way the most important Ramone is still breathing.Tommy does not get nearly enough credit. They may have recorded some great songs after he left but never another great album. They went from being a pop band that played really loud & fast to a punk band that played pop.A crucial difference that led to the Ramones playing demi-metal & hardcore(Dee Dee singing???).You can hear it in live recordings also.Marky just raced thru the material & as the band played faster live they lost sight of the melodies & the songs playing them all as one endless blur..Man they were always about the tunes to me.Maybe it would have happened anyway but i always was surprised nobody else seemed to notice. After about 1985 it was like seeing a punk version of the Mike Love Beach Boys live.Just sad.Flame me if you will but i saw these guys in 77/78/79 when they meant something & there was a world of difference.Sad about the guys though. They really were kinda cursed with the worst luck

mark grout (mark grout), Friday, 17 September 2004 15:04 (twenty-one years ago)

xpost myself.

Classic Ramones line up = "1 2 3 4 gzzzz" etc

The Ramones I saw (last UK gig, Marky drums) = "1 2 3 4 (pause) gzzzz"

I mean, yeah Marky was the longest drummer, but you know....

Courtney Love's "But Julian, I'm a Little Bit Older Than You" pays tribute to the Ramones by borrowing the "hey gabba gabba" thing.

I'm American, Saturday, 18 September 2004 10:16 (twenty-one years ago)

"Sol Da Caparica" by Peste & Sida - a cover of "California Sun", with different, portuguese lyrics - mentions the Ramones blasting on the tape deck. I'm guessing they heard their version first.
