Guitar Player for the MPC set.

I just wish it was more like Tape-Op for the MPC set.

It's really good in terms of interviews.

It's got some corny features though. Like that one where they ask a psychic to discuss a producer's mindstate based on one listen to the recording.

yeah they seem to fishing around pretty hard for stuff to fill space with.

still its nice to read these guys talk about their tech, technique, etc. it makes for a nice change of pace from the usual rap interview.

I bought this magazine yesterday knowing nothing about it, just b/c Kanye was on the cover, and have read/enjoyed everything inside. Way more satisfying than any "other" rap mag I've ever read. Might even consider a subscription.

Have you read "Wax Poetics"? It's a journal/zine that's been out a couple years. It's aimed at the dusty groove-beatdigging-hiphoppers, and features a lot of stories on old soul/jazz artists/producers.

Anyway I noticed that the same guy, Andre Torres, is the editor-in-chief of both scratch & wax poetics.

Anyone know the story?

The other secret other life of Andre Torrez!

It's pretty shoddy really - the producers never really go in depth about how they produce and what they use (the 9th Wonder Fruity Loops thing was no more than him saying 'Yes, I use it', so it just ends up being a 'yeah I sample soul loops and use an MPC', which is hardly revolutionary.

What else can you say when you use Fruity Loops?! I mean, there's nothing else FOR him to say.

wax poetics and grand slam are great. but expensive.

splooge (thesplooge), Saturday, 18 September 2004 16:34 (twenty-one years ago)

i'll venture to guess that the wax poetics crew "parlayed" their sucess to get a bigger deal. pretty nice manuever, eh?
