Should I go see a Joel Plaskett Emergency show that is being recorded for a live album/DVD?

I haven't listened to anything by him/them in ages and I didn't really like the last one and have seen him/them plenty of times before BUT it is being recorded so there is a possibilty I could be part of history. Or something.

Depends...if you didn't really like it all that much you may not enjoy it, but if your main goal is to yell things during the show so you can hear yourself later, why not?

The only thing is, if you yell things between songs they'll probably just edit you out.

I would so be there.

so i've always been a huge fan of thrush hermit's clayton park but had not heard any of joel's solo stuff until i ran into his album from this year which is vastly better than i could have expected.

don't suppose anyone could offer any pointers on attacking the like 7 or 8 other albums he's put out?

Actually, yes you should check out all his records. He is truly one of Canada's greatest living song writers.
He is in top form right now, so if you get the chance to see him live, do it!

Check his records out in this order:
1. Three
2. Down at the Khyber
3. Scrappy Happiness
4. La De Da
5. In need of Medical Attention
6. Ashtray Rock
7. Truthfully, Truthfully

And yes, Clayton Park is one the best Canadian albums ever made IMO. Severely underrated.
Saw Thrush Hermit play their last show on the reunion tour and they were just as good as when I saw them play when I was 16.

Scrappy Happiness made my Top 10 of last year, but I'd agree that a newcomer should just go ahead and dive headfirst into Three.

New album, The Park Avenue Sobriety Test, out yesterday. One listen in and its not grabbing me as immediately as the last couple did--his jokiness only sometimes works for me--but promising enough that I'm looking forward to my next spin.

Here's one of the new tracks + a Lucinda Williams cover (not on the album) from a session he did for the National Post (!?!):

That shit right there is precedented. (cryptosicko), Wednesday, 18 March 2015 16:28 (ten years ago)
