Recording contracts that are actually kinda fun

Two Norwegian rappers have pulled their latest single after 5,000 sales because of a clause they put in their contract.

Jaa9 and OnklP, from Lillehammer, have a contract that says once their single Kjendisparty - Celebrity party, reaches 5,000 it will be pulled.

They pair are said to have a number of unusual clauses in the contract with the C + C Records label.

The single was a big hit in Norway, but the video was censored in the UK because record company boss Christer Falck appears to give the finger to the camera, says Aftenposten.

Falck says among the other quirky clauses the duo have in their contract is one that says If their album sells 10,000 copies Falck will wash Jaa9's mother's house, wearing only tennis socks.

"There are many ways to wear tennis socks and I am used to housecleaning, so this will go fine," Falck told Norwegian Broadcasting.

Shouldn't selling 10 000 copies be near impossible if you pull the single at 5000 copies sold. I don't know, still a typical Norwegian contract.

This story pleases me.

There should be more of this. Why should quirky clauses only appear in live band riders?

Because music biz lawyers charge £300 upwards an hour, so the only artists who could slip such clauses into contracts would also be trained legal professionals, who aren't well known for their humour. Jokes in riders are usually ignored by promoters, unless they're easily arranged. But they make for easily spread legends.
