This is one of the rawest rock songs i've ever heard.

scg, Monday, 20 September 2004 16:15 (twenty-one years ago)

The build up into the chorus!!

scg, Monday, 20 September 2004 16:15 (twenty-one years ago)

You have to pretend to play the drums, head down, hat low, left hand plays high-hat, random up down up down with other hand but really soft and precise gradually releasing the high-hat till the fucking hurricane Ivan guitar riff comes in and you lose your shit neck snaps to the side left hand up a bit hitting ride cymbal and sore throat.

scg, Monday, 20 September 2004 16:18 (twenty-one years ago)

i just imagine the mgm lion is singing this song and it becomes marginally tolerable

amateur!!st, Monday, 20 September 2004 16:19 (twenty-one years ago)

Or you can hunch over into the microphone for the chorus and steer your car to the rollin rollin rollin bit.

scg, Monday, 20 September 2004 16:20 (twenty-one years ago)

so classic - the remix with dmx, meth & redman also rules.

(pete b.), Monday, 20 September 2004 16:20 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah the remix would have been good if they were just spitting over the original tho!

scg, Monday, 20 September 2004 16:25 (twenty-one years ago)

rollin rollin rollin
What?!
rollin rollin rollin
Yeah!
rollin rollin rollin
what?!
rollin rollin rollin
yeah
rollin rollin rollin
what?!
rollin rollin rollin
yeah!

air drumming is fun but not as fun as doing the exaggerated mime of steering a gigantic steering wheel like in the video

Al (sitcom), Monday, 20 September 2004 16:27 (twenty-one years ago)

I don't particularly like this song, but when I used to work in a bar-&-grill style restaurant while it was at its peak popularity, it would come on the radio while we were working, and everybody in the kitchen would yell out "BLUNTS!" after the "rollin rollin rollin" parts. That was kinda cool.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Monday, 20 September 2004 16:28 (twenty-one years ago)

It's great as well cos you can do a proper bad-boy step to it or get all snakey with your girl on the dancefloor and both moves fit perfectly.

xpost

Yeah, i swear after that video dropped out loads of rappers started copping Fred's move! Mike Jones does it in the "Still Tippin" video as well.

scg, Monday, 20 September 2004 16:29 (twenty-one years ago)

Similarly to most people do nails scratching on a chalkboard, I have a painful physical reaction to the line where Fred goes "I know y'all be lovin' this shit right here/yadda yadda yadda this shit right here".

nickalicious (nickalicious), Monday, 20 September 2004 16:30 (twenty-one years ago)

The best is verse 2 where he tries to rap like E 40!

scg, Monday, 20 September 2004 16:31 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh wait, doesn't he say, in the second part of that, something about "Bizkit is right here" or something? I need to stop popping ludes.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Monday, 20 September 2004 16:31 (twenty-one years ago)

You wanna mess with Limp Bizkit?
yeah

Well You can't mess with Limp Bizkit
why?

Cause we get it on, every day and every night. See this platinum thing on the wall? Well, we're doin' it all the time so get some better beats and get some better rhymes
doh!

that part in the "rollin'" video where durst is jumping up and down in a caveman costume seems so....apt.

latebloomer (latebloomer), Monday, 20 September 2004 16:45 (twenty-one years ago)

that's the "My Way" video, which is even better!

Al (sitcom), Monday, 20 September 2004 16:49 (twenty-one years ago)

This song reminds me of fat biker Undertaker = this song and me do not get along.

alfalfa romeo (natepatrin), Monday, 20 September 2004 17:11 (twenty-one years ago)

OTM

latebloomer (latebloomer), Monday, 20 September 2004 17:23 (twenty-one years ago)

I like how the song references elements of other late '90s white-rap breakthroughs. The aforementioned "platinum things right here" verse uses Eminem's "My Name Is" lil'-comeback-effect ("dare me to drive?" "go ahead") and the final verse shout-outs is very "bawitdaba."

Me and Herbert used to say this was the best single of 2000. I'm not sure if he's still down with that, but I think I am.

manthony m1cc1o (Anthony Miccio), Monday, 20 September 2004 18:06 (twenty-one years ago)

My best singles of 2000
1. Third Eye Blind - Never Let You Go
2. Madonna - Music
3. Limp Bizkit - Rollin
4. Eminem - The Real Slim Shady
5. Joan of Arc - Me and America (the United Colors of the Gap)

herbert hebert (herbert hebert), Monday, 20 September 2004 21:37 (twenty-one years ago)

The only other contender for the top spot for me is Outkast's "B.O.B."

manthony m1cc1o (Anthony Miccio), Monday, 20 September 2004 22:29 (twenty-one years ago)

and dude you're right, videos involving a band performing on the top of a giant building (in this case one of the twin towers - Fred has ruminated on this in a VH1 interview) usually do represent the peak of success for the band. Linkin Park's "Breaking The Habit" is the latest example of this I've seen (And since it's their fifth single and fourth no. 1 modern rock hit off of Meteora - "Faint" only hit no. 2! - it kinda makes sense).

manthony m1cc1o (Anthony Miccio), Monday, 20 September 2004 22:35 (twenty-one years ago)

Not only is this track utter, utter shit, it's also the worst thing they've ever done. Complete sonic garbage from start to finish.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Monday, 20 September 2004 22:50 (twenty-one years ago)

Alex, you can not like the song, but to imply that it's the worst thing they've done is ludicrous. They have tons of lousy album tracks that don't have any of the possible redeeming value that "Rollin'" does.

Al (sitcom), Monday, 20 September 2004 22:59 (twenty-one years ago)

I agree with the first sentence, but not the second.

it's better than for that that 'my generation' though

sweet jesus to use awho track for the tilte on that shit!!

ruffle bar (grumpy_bastard), Tuesday, 21 September 2004 00:55 (twenty-one years ago)

My three favorite moments in "My Generation":

1) Hey kid, take my advice. Ya don’t wanna step into a big pile of shit!

2) But do you think we can fly
Do you think we can fly
Do you think we can fly
Well I do, I do .....FLY!

3) DJ LETHAL! BRING IT ON! *wah wuggah wah wikky wikky wah!!!*

manthony m1cc1o (Anthony Miccio), Tuesday, 21 September 2004 00:59 (twenty-one years ago)

I've never heard this song, but I in my head I imagine it sounding like a nu-metal cover of "Rawhide."

joseph pot (STINKOR™), Tuesday, 21 September 2004 01:04 (twenty-one years ago)

I feel a little bad for writing this but I think "rolling" is the most disgustingly revolting piece of garbage ever recorded and it definitely maked a low point for the whole rap-metal thing that (thank God) seems to be finally over now.

daavid (daavid), Tuesday, 21 September 2004 01:08 (twenty-one years ago)

linkin park's still selling big time. though DJ Lethal himself declared that rap-metal was dead on their MTV special. They have a song called "Radio Is Dead" on Results May Vary, though, so we have to assume they're unnecessarily pessimisstic people.

manthony m1cc1o (Anthony Miccio), Tuesday, 21 September 2004 01:12 (twenty-one years ago)

it really annoys me that people still feel need to incessantly demonize LB as the nadir of popular music, a full 4-5 years after their commercial peak. I'd have quite a lucrative racket if I had a nickel for every time I heard somebody invoke the Bizkit when talking about the problem with what "kids today" listen to. they come off a little like quaint old grandparents who keep asking you if you still listen to whoever your favorite band was when you were 12.

Al (sitcom), Tuesday, 21 September 2004 02:04 (twenty-one years ago)

Even Limp Bizkit fans don't like Limp Bizkit anymore. Speaking of which, has the band toured since that disastrous outdoor Metallica jaunt?

Josh in Chicago (Josh in Chicago), Tuesday, 21 September 2004 13:58 (twenty-one years ago)

The fact that Limp Bizkit are easy targets doesn't make them any less awful.

Rollin' may not be the worst song Limp Bizkit have ever recorded, but it's the worst I've ever heard of them. Rearranged, that was their high point.
