unique lyrical obsessions

There's gotta be at least 15 or 20 DEVO songs that mention potatoes, spuds, spudboys, spudguns etc etc. Can anyone else match this volume of unique lyrical content?

Too Short talks about bitches alot.

Prince and purple things. No one else has dwelt quite so far as purple bananas, right?

Joseph McCombs (Joseph McCombs), Monday, 20 September 2004 20:01 (twenty-one years ago)

Todd Edwards works Jesus into almost all of his productions and even remixes (he'll even take syllables out of context and make them into something like "Praise Him").

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Monday, 20 September 2004 20:03 (twenty-one years ago)

Both Pet Shop Boys and Aerosmith mention dogs a lot, as does DMX.

Pet Shop Boys mention that they want things a lot, as do the Ramones.

Kool Keith owns this thread:

I used to mix soda pops and alcohol with cough drops
Then rub they knee caps and smear they face with Sugar Smacks
Open they butts and pour ammonia down they pussy cracks
Then fight they fire, pull they hair apart with metal pliers
Fuck them with two stiff drinks, up on the kitchen sinks
Make them pour Ajax, lick Comet off my nutsac
Hold me tight with baseball gloves, crank the purple light
I used to masturbate to tapes, "Planet of the Apes"
I like Zera, I always wanted to fuck her, get near her
And tell Cornelius get back and let her feel this
I'm on some groove shit, not generic new improved shit
With swimmin trunks in bed, my black shoes painted red
Some hoes are rookies, my sheets filled with oatmeal cookies
Can you put more Oreos in the bed?

AC/DC have a bit of a thing for explosives, don't they? There's obvious ones that are so familiar that they don't even always register as being as wonky as they are (Zeppelin and Tolkien, Rush cranking out Ayn Rand-fixated album after album till the early-mid 80s). There's at least two Thurston Moore songs almost a decade apart that use the word "crayon" as an adjective to describe "eyes", which isn't really comparable to 25 songs about potatoes but is a pretty eccentric metaphor to cling to for that long.

AC/DC, testicles ("Big Balls", "She's Got Balls", "Got You By the Balls")

Brian Johnson-era AC/DC specialized in juvenile big-dick and double-entendre song titles. A few quick examples:

Givin' The Dog A Bone
Beating Around The Bush
Guns For Hire
Night Of The Long Knives
Sink The Pink
etc.

Myonga Von Bontee (Myonga Von Bontee), Tuesday, 21 September 2004 08:44 (twenty-one years ago)

The first two U.S. singles off the first album by The Fixx were both about war, and actually both about nuclear war, IIRC. That's a bit obsessive for a band that really wasn't that deep.
