A friend of mine got me an issue for my birthday (cover price: $6.66, natch)....Anvil: The Unholy Bible of Extreme Metal....

Seriously the most fun I've ever had reading absolutely cover to cover a music mag about bands I'm largely unfamiliar with....(although they did have cool interviews with old tyme thrashers reunited Death Angel and Exodus - lots of gary holt's meth addiction)....

anyway....they also have the best rating system EVER EVER EVER:

1-10 Skulls
10 Fucking Skulls
666 Fucking Skulls.

12 ratings, 2 with the words Fucking Skulls in them. Best mag ever. Case Closed!

Anvil used to be SOD (Sounds Of Death). They are going for a slicker more professional look now. More power to them. (some of my fave magazine cd comps came with issues of SOD.) SOD had the same newsstand price and rating system. It's nice that they didn't get rid of those.
