although p.p. arnold's version is best (i find rod stewart's a little overwrought)

this song is always on at the laundromat i go to! it's sheryl crow i think

it is indeed sheryl crow, and it's on her greatest hits disc which is actually awesome. seriously.

The greatest hits has TWO versions, one pop-countrified, that's even better.

Is it originally Cat Stevens? That's the oldest (sounding) version I know, but I don't have a clue if he wrote it. My favorite version is Norma Fraser's.

i like the koobas one best

VH1 Classic showed the Rod Stewart version the other night. It made me realize that Rod has succumed to Robin Williams Syndrome, having become so god-awful that he's traveled back in time and rendered formerly good stuff shitty.

yeah, those "rod stewart sings the popular songbook" things look like a fucking disaster and a half

amateur!!!st (amateurist), Tuesday, 21 September 2004 01:58 (twenty-one years ago)

they come on the oldies station every once in a while, and i always think it's a woman, but no, it's old, haggard, rod stewart.

i don't understand; his voice is crap, always has been. why pay to hear him do the classics? it seems really disingenuous.

derrick (derrick), Tuesday, 21 September 2004 02:07 (twenty-one years ago)

by the way everyone needs to buy a p.p. arnold record now

so sheryl crow eh? i have a funny relationship with sheryl crow. i really hate her for some reason, but i like some of her singles (though there's always at least one thing in them that bugs me--sometimes her voice). that "fun in the sun"/"my brain hurts" one is terrible
