Have more people listened to this now? I'd like to hear others' thoughts.

it's got it's place. nothing too essential, but, more importantly, it's fun. got some nice beats goin on, too.

This absolutely doesn't need to be an hour long, but I feel like there is a very solid 40~ minutes, wish they would do it again, everyone involved seems busy and in fine shape

like that this band only played a dozen live shows is just insane, they have a full bar onstage and it's classy and appropriate
― Florin Cuchares, Tuesday, 4 July 2023 08:43 (two years ago)
Oh I had no idea they made live shows for this one. That looks fun. I feel the whole concept and Patton’s sleazy act is a harder sell nowadays to justify a sequel, but I’d still be interested in seeing all the talent involved come up with something.

patton's whole approach to sexuality is kind of interesting to me... the way most of it is performative, as a way to alienate fans. it doesn't seem to have worked. mostly he seems to be married to his work! or did, back in the day, i haven't followed him in a while. so he dressed up in submissive bondage gear, drank his own urine on stage... there's this one concert on the warped tour where in response to a homophobic south carolina audience, he just spent the whole concert simulating performing fellatio. and then there's the whole first album, much of which is about jerking off... and then there's "dead goon", which is a song that i am _very personally displeased_ with. and then on the other hand he has songs like "vanity fair" which i just find totally unrelatable in terms of character motivation... so that's the context in which i understood, and understand, the lothario character he portrays in "lovage". it would be really difficult to update to the present day, i think!
but maybe that's my bias. i don't even understand what it would _look like_ to be cishet in 2023, that's way outside of my lived experience.

For some reason this has become the most valuable record in my collection.
― octobeard, Tuesday, 4 July 2023 18:51 (two years ago)
Usually the first thing I remember from this record is "you gotta brush ya breath wit ya teef"
― octobeard, Tuesday, 4 July 2023 18:52 (two years ago)
From what I heard the live show was p out there. At one point Mike Patton was in the crowd licking chocolate sauce off any willing fans.

yeah it would be super interesting to see how they might try this today, patton I think has mellowed/matured? considerably over the past couple decades, still a weirdo but not as gross I would hope anyways
and I love jennifer charles so much, the elysian fields record from last year is great and she sounds fantastic, in that live show mike gets up to some pretty interesting accompaniments when jen takes the lead
― Florin Cuchares, Wednesday, 5 July 2023 04:41 (two years ago)
and I love the idea of everyone milling about around an onstage bar for a few minutes while kid koala puts on an interstitial clinic
― Florin Cuchares, Wednesday, 5 July 2023 04:46 (two years ago)
well,Mike would be doing crowd work/mingling, i'd imagine

I saw one of those Lovage shows, that was back when Dan the Automator had a million projects. Peak Automator.
I believe Patton recently took a year or two off for mental health reasons, but I guess he and band(s) are back in action again.

Lol at that Patton photo

Man, getting old sucks.
― ✖✖✖ (Moka), Thursday, 6 July 2023 06:45 (two years ago)
But yeah, it adds to my point that Mike Patton singing sleazy on top of porn grooves nowadays is a hard sell.

no offense to anybody here who's a non-gay MSM, but god MSMs piss me off so much. it's like being a libertarian or some shit.
the thing that i hate most about it more is the way MSMs are given priority over trans experiences. when they were giving out the monkeypox the messaging was that MSMs should get it. but they also made it clear that i should get the vaccine even though i'm not a man and i don't have sex with men, because i suck dick. it's more important that we respect the rights of MSMs to not be thought of as _queer_ than it is to get my gender or sexual orientation right. what's really important, as always, is the comfort and convenience of cishet men.
don't even get me started about trying to get on PrEP. You try to get on there and doctors are like "How often do you have receptive anal intercourse with strangers?" and it's like my friend as a trans woman i'm at a staggeringly high risk for sexual assault, but apparently that's not enough to qualify me for PrEP. They have their priorities, and I'm not one of them.
