Hierarchical, obdurate, fat; a clockwork cymbal-crashing plaything for Momus?

Roy Blows, Friday, 7 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Hello, doomie. How's the book coming along?

DG, Friday, 7 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Hierarchical?

Nick, Saturday, 8 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Just look at the top of the page, man!

I'm rather pleased with 'obdurate' myself.

Josh, Saturday, 8 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

oh dud, its really bad now.

gareth, Monday, 10 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I would just like to say, that thanks to the I LOVE MUSIC forum, I can walk into buses again with deliberate conviction. I can also dance, where once I could not. This may or may not be true. Consult your physician for possible allergies.

Gage-o, Monday, 10 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

five months pass...
Is ILM in crisis? Was it ever / is it still, as Momus put's it on his link page, 'an intelligent community'? Is there now a new ILM, like some veterans have quiped recently. Moreover, are these duffers right to hint that ILM is now more aggressive, obtuse, ferrety, puerile. Why has Robin Cormody and others deserted the forum ... Have they, even? Why does the charming (not meant sarcastically) Ned stick around? Will he drift off, too?

I am not Nina H. I dare say some of you didn't expect me to be. I am about 25 different people. I'm at least three different celebrity posters you would be shocked to know are infact the same people. I could be Dave225 and Tom, Gareth and pinefox or even Ned and Momus. But I'm not those particular splits. I've been skittishly contributing to this forum for a long time - as a benevolent sham; and I have to say, I am personally troubled by the new wave of hateful, boastful, comments, which could in the long run render this forum as docile as Friendsreunited. Of course, I say this as Nina H. If I was contributing to this thread as one of my other characters (one of my characters might be you), I might not give a stuff.

Nina H., Thursday, 16 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

If we are coming clean then I too am 3 or 4 Wellknown posters here. I may or may not be Nina H, that only you can answer. But whatever way you look at I upset the consensus here and how many of you are individual or clever enough to do that?

John D, Thursday, 16 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I take that back. And I am very sorry.

John D., Thursday, 16 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Oh for God's sake, not characters again.

DG, Thursday, 16 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Why does the charming (not meant sarcastically) Ned stick around? Will he drift off, too?

Why thank you. :-) And no, not planning on drifting off. There is always much to enjoy here, and like any place and any person, there are good days and bad days. :-)

Ned Raggett, Thursday, 16 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Hey! I just discovered the above e-mail address and name at the dump. It's amazing what people throw away. They're in really good condition, and might, as a set, be valuable. But I've decided to hold onto them for a while. I will now post as Robin Carmody, if that's okay with everyone ... ? Of course, Robin likes slighlty different music now, but my new identity will surely command me the respect I've always deserved.

Robin Carmody, Thursday, 16 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

re: the dissolution of the 'old ilm'

While I certainly empathize with the old-schoolers, I'd be remiss if I didn't point out that *constant* reminders of how much the 'new ILM sucks' can be more than a little intimidating for us newbies who are engaged if not a little daunted. There's a fine line between maintaining quality control and fostering total insularity. Surely a little new blood isn't entirely bad?

Mark, Thursday, 16 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Good point, Ned.

Nina H., Thursday, 16 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

agreed mark, the thing is, just about all the new posters have definitely added something. and yes, talk about new and old ilm is offputting to newcomers (as are these kind of threads really). really, the more new posters the better because it will hopefully dilute some of the weirdness (see the post above yours for example) that tends to haunt the board now

gareth, Thursday, 16 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

The 'weird' post you refer to wasn't mine but, in its defence, I don't honestly think it's any more weird than starting a thread on a music discussion forum called, 'i'm going to bed now', as you did very recently -- which I found amusing at the time.

Nina H., Thursday, 16 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

damn, it seems you have defeated me. oh well, hey, at least my crap has my own name at the bottom though, at least give me that!

gareth, Thursday, 16 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

in fact, its quite a relief to learn i'm not one of your kerr-azy alter egos!

gareth, Thursday, 16 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Your words are mine; your name is mine to assume. And you were my first - a concubine: I left myself, came to your room, varnished your fingernails white; and the comments, I thought I could never write, were written by me, all the same - when Gareth became my christian name.

Nina H., Thursday, 16 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I just want to announce that me and Ethan are the same person. Thank you.

Ally, Thursday, 16 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Men are such bastards! Ethan said he was mine. He said he didn't know where I began and he ended.

Claire Ridout, Friday, 17 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Are you two siamese twins then?

DG, Friday, 17 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

We're now a civil war

Claire Ridout, Friday, 17 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Oh, cool, cool.

DG, Friday, 17 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

More like a quaint village's re-enactment of a civil war, you understand -- where no one gets hurt, with a member of St.John's Ambulance in attendance, and raffle tickets being sold in the Pub's car park (usually for patrons only).

Claire Ridout, Friday, 17 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Are you anybody DG? I mean, other than your self?

Claire Ridout, Friday, 17 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

We could be one.

Claire Ridout, Friday, 17 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Just imagine. You and me. Together. Always. We'd show the world.

DG Ridout, Friday, 17 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

This thread is very peculiar. I'm not sure if I should be profoundly disturbed by it or just laugh.

Alex in SF, Friday, 17 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Oh My -- it's happened! We have taken over each other. We are in the same skin. Stop fidgeting. Wow ... I'm bigger than I was.

DG Ridout, Friday, 17 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Alex! Alex, Alex, Alex, Alex. Welcome. Take a seat. Don't look so nervous. I'm not going to eat you. What can I do for you. MMmmmmm, what a lovely looking identity you have.

DG Ridout, Friday, 17 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

This wasn't meant to happen.

Roy Blows, Friday, 17 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Uh sure. *frantically claws at the doorknob, looking all sweat-y and terrified*

Alex in SF, Friday, 17 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Shut up, you fool, Roy: I am already you. Or, you are me.

DG Ridout, Friday, 17 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Alex is getting away!

Roy Blow, Nina H., DG Ridout,Robin Carmody, Friday, 17 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Get away from me!!!!! *finally opens door and runs screaming from the room*

Alex in SF, Friday, 17 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Has he split? Well, there are plenty more Alex's on this board.

Roy Blows, Friday, 17 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Don't mess with the Alex's. PH34R US!!

VoltrALEX in SF NYC Montreal Mainhatten (and a bunch o' other places), Friday, 17 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

There's me -- Grayson Lane's discovery; the chap who got his wife, who was wearing a neck brace at the time, to drive him down to London from Chesterfield so he could see Rogan Whitenails play a set, supporting Ben and Jason at Borders on Oxford Street. Rememeber? I was the chap that Nick Rhodes accused of being the child stand up alternative comic who insulted Carly simon on The Tube. You can take me, guys!

Alex, Friday, 17 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Yes, take the weak Alex. He's just our robotic tonsils.

VoltrALEX in SF NYC Montreal Mainhatten (and a bunch o' other places), Friday, 17 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

We already have you, Alex. We took you and Nick Rhodes. We never did get Grayson Lane, though.

DG Ridout, Limiter Garner, Jeff Duff, Gotch, Friday, 17 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Yoohoo! I say, you can take me guys!

Alex, Friday, 17 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

WE ALREADY HAVE YOU! Alex ... sorry for shouting; but we already have you, baby.

Roy Blows, Friday, 17 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Oh, Cool, cool.

Alex, Friday, 17 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

So, what do I do now?

Alex, Friday, 17 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

You just be us, and we'll me you.

Roy Blows, Rogan Whitenails, DG Ridout, Friday, 17 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Roy, you mean: 'we'll BE you?' 'Not we'll ME you'.

normie, Friday, 17 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

We, Me, you. It's all the same.

Roy Blows, Gotch, normie, Vinnie, DG Ridout, Friday, 17 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Finally, the respect I've always deserved!

Robin Carmody, Friday, 17 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Shut up Robin!

The Church of Ned Raggett (25 Different People)

Here’s the church, here’s the steeple - open the doors, and see the people; open the thumbs and see the fingers: a Raggett full of ringers, bushrangers and boasters – twenty five different posters* ... There’re loads: Robin Carmody and Nick Rhodes, Limiter Garner, Tom, Jeff Duff ... will there ever be enough?! At the weekends, Raggett shoots grouse in the grounds of his country house; and the finger, pulling the trigger, in his study, clicks the mouse; but his finger is stronger and bigger on his “Lord of the Rings” mouse-pad - when his tortured characters add their comments to a thread*. Open the doors – look inside Ned, where all our prayers are poured. His hand is a church - his fingers, his flock; and this starry discussion board still shudders with the shock of the big bang. Will Raggett, like Kelly, hang - his neck in the noose of his mouse? At the weekends, Raggett shoots grouse, drinking brandy from a flask; his mouse is his noose, his mask; a different e-mail, a made up name: he loads his gun, takes aim, and curses the game he missed, clicking the mouse with his fist.

Roy Blows, Friday, 17 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

This thread is evidence for the fact that I Love Music is turning into a dud.
It used to be classic I guess.

alex in mainhattan, Friday, 17 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Nee nee mun pish, as a saying goes

Sarah, Friday, 17 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

You mean? No! We, all of us, have been Ned Raggett all along?! !

Alex, Friday, 17 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

No, I'm ned Raggett!

Alan T, Friday, 17 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Yes, Alex -- Ned was us ... once; but he went over to the other side. Anyway, guys, I think it's time we left this board for good because Alex from Frankfurt is here and he looks quite cross! Why not take all of me? You could have done ILM. Bye!

Roy Blows, Friday, 17 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Thanks for that Alan T. Bye.

Roy Blows, Friday, 17 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Finally, the respect I ders ... Okay Okay, Roy -- I'm coming! But don't blame me if the original Robin Carmody reclaims his name and e- mail address after we've all gone.

Robin Carmody, Friday, 17 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I took over a magazine once from someone who had several pseudonyms. They were desperate attempts by a boring man to seem interesting, and sometimes shields for saying things he thought might be shocking that he was scared of or didn't actually believe or want to stand behind. It's too often the desperate stratagem of those who, rightly or wrongly, have no confidence in their own real person being interesting or stimulating.

But of course I know that you're not like that...
