good god. i've just switched on john peel and the weddoes are in session. didn't they only re-form a couple of weeks ago? that's fast work. anyway, hurrah. it's like 1990 all over again.

first song sounded like the weddoes going forward in time to cover a cinerama song. we're promised "an unexpected cover" and "an old wedding present song" too. ooooh, superb.

weirdly, mrs fiendish didn't look too impressed when i told her i'd "have to stay up till 1am because the weddoes are in session on peel." i'll never understand women.

Post what the cover and old song were once it's over!

no point really, they all sound the same anyway :) :) :)

right: that was an exquisite piece of watusi-esque fractured-sample wonder called "shivers". a quick piece of googling leads me to expect a version of "blue eyes" later (boo, i so wanted kennedy) and, er, something called "white horses". hmm. will wait and see what that turns out to be, i think.

oddly ... the cinerama site says something about a documentary on ITV1 tonight about the weddoes. we're certainly not getting it here in scotland - it's gallic fun ahoy over on ITV1 right now - but is anyone else receiving this?

don't suppose anyone's *taping* it?

update: it's the theme tune to the TV show white horses. it's ... OK. think it was a better idea than a finished item.

*sigh* does no one else care about the wedding present on john peel? i'm obviously even sadder than i thought.

I think a lot of the Wedding Presents' covers fit the description of "better idea than finished item." But I love them for trying them, anyways.
I don't know what the TV show "White Horses," is, though - their "Cheers" and "Twin Peaks" themes are great, though!

I don't know what the TV show "White Horses," is, though

and you're right, their TP theme tune is *awesome*

ok, last one's on right now: and yup, it's blue eyes. rockin'. but an odd choice, all the same. i mean, it's hardly a hewn-from-stone classic, izzit?

(btw, just noticed ... that "gallic" above shd be "gaelic", natch. oops. *blush*)

Wait, is the ultra fast strummer guy from the Ukranians - Peter Solowka? - back in the band? That's the Wedding Present era I want to reunite.

I care, grimly fiendish. I care. Thanks for telling us about it. I'm assuming this will be archived so I'll try to listen to it soon.

see: i think that this "wedding present" is basically a rebadged cinerama. i don't think there have been any radical rejoinings or whatever.

Some of us really want another Cinerama album, though.

Early weddoes were my fave band at the time (and White Horses one of my fave songs evah!) but i've yet to hear a decent cover version (i'm looking at YOU isobel campbell!). i guess we'll see in an hour or two when i've had a chance to Listen Again(TM)

I used to do a "wedding Presentish" version of "It's not unusual" as part of my 'solo set'.

And about a year later, guess what happened?

mark grout (mark grout), Wednesday, 22 September 2004 08:42 (twenty-one years ago)

You wrote Wonderwall and invented Drum and Bass?

wtin, Wednesday, 22 September 2004 10:43 (twenty-one years ago)

No that was a year previous.
