"You Get What You Give" New Radicals

Johnny Fever (johnny fever), Thursday, 23 September 2004 02:28 (twenty-one years ago)

"You're So Vain"...who sang that?...Carole King?...

"Napoleon" Ani DiFranco

shookout (shookout), Thursday, 23 September 2004 02:33 (twenty-one years ago)

I hate how every single one of these threads include that fucking New Radicals song.

That band (and even the song itself) existing is a paen to corporate, money-driven rock.

(By the way - I am using the word 'paen' correctly, right?)

mclusky - Collagen Rock

Sasha (sgh), Thursday, 23 September 2004 03:16 (twenty-one years ago)

You hold your NR opinion; I'll hold mine.

(Mclusky suX0rs)

Johnny Fever (johnny fever), Thursday, 23 September 2004 03:19 (twenty-one years ago)

Ahahahahahahhahahahahahahahahhahhahahahhhahhahahahhahahahhaaahahahhahahhahahahahahahahhahahahahhahahahahahahahahhaahhahahahahahhahahahahahahahahahhahahahahahahahahahhahahahahahahahahaaaahahahahahhahahahahhahahahahahaha.

Sorry. I owe you a doubbafrappemochachino.

Seriously though, that song gets played at fucking shopping centres.

Sasha (sgh), Thursday, 23 September 2004 03:47 (twenty-one years ago)

Seriously though, that song gets played at fucking shopping centres.

So do Beatles songs. Your point?

Johnny Fever (johnny fever), Thursday, 23 September 2004 04:04 (twenty-one years ago)

"Into Yer Shtik" and "Generation Spokesmodel," Mudhoney

Rickey Wright (Rrrickey), Thursday, 23 September 2004 04:13 (twenty-one years ago)

The Beatles suck?

Sasha (sgh), Thursday, 23 September 2004 04:33 (twenty-one years ago)

Rather, legions upon legions of people know and like the Beatles (not me). The NR song hit television adverts the same time it hit the airwaves.

Not to mention the sheer irony of the emaciated 'I-could-make-Michael-Stipe-seem-hard-compared-to-me' singers threat of kicking other bands' collective arses in.

Sasha (sgh), Thursday, 23 September 2004 04:35 (twenty-one years ago)

"Supermodel," Juliana Hatfield

Phil Dennison (Phil D.), Thursday, 23 September 2004 12:14 (twenty-one years ago)

Veering away from New Radicals ... Joni Mitchell, "Other People's Parties" and Shawn Mullins, "Lullaby"

Joseph McCombs (Joseph McCombs), Thursday, 23 September 2004 12:14 (twenty-one years ago)

(By the way - I am using the word 'paen' correctly, right?)

Pedant alert: it's "paean."

jaymc (jaymc), Thursday, 23 September 2004 13:04 (twenty-one years ago)

Loudon Wainwright III - Liza (not strictly an indictment)

Dadrockismus (Dada), Thursday, 23 September 2004 13:05 (twenty-one years ago)

Death Cab for Cutie, "Why You'd Want to Live Here" (cross-listed with Songs About Los Angeles):

it's a lovely summer's day and i can almost see a skyline through a thickening shroud of egos. (is this the city of angels or demons?)
here the names are what remain: stars encapsulate the gold lame and they need constant cleaning for when the tourists begin salivating.

you can't swim in a town this shallow - you will most assuredly drown tomorrow.

jaymc (jaymc), Thursday, 23 September 2004 13:07 (twenty-one years ago)

If I didn't know any better, I'd suggest that Sonic Youth's "Mariah Carey and the Arthur Doyle Hand Cream" fit into this category, but I think Kim Gordon feels genuine affection toward Ms. Carey.

jaymc (jaymc), Thursday, 23 September 2004 13:08 (twenty-one years ago)

Joe South - "These Are Not My People"

briania (briania), Thursday, 23 September 2004 13:15 (twenty-one years ago)

DJ Mencap0))), Thursday, 23 September 2004 13:32 (twenty-one years ago)

That's merely an indictment of celebrity gay-ness.

briania (briania), Thursday, 23 September 2004 13:34 (twenty-one years ago)

"You're So Vain"...who sang that?...Carole King?...

Isnt that a show on VH1? Hollywood Babylon?

David Allen (David Allen), Friday, 24 September 2004 06:37 (twenty-one years ago)

Something like that. It was a track they -- somewhat inexplicably -- donated to the soundtrack of "Showgirls" (but, hey, Paul Verhoven did direct great films like The Soldier of Orange and The Fourth Man earlier in his career, so maybe that was their reason.....one can only hope).

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Friday, 24 September 2004 06:40 (twenty-one years ago)

Myonga Von Bontee (Myonga Von Bontee), Friday, 24 September 2004 08:33 (twenty-one years ago)

"Flavah of the Week"

Danger Whore (kate), Friday, 24 September 2004 08:36 (twenty-one years ago)

Pet Shop Boys: "Flamboyant"

daavid (daavid), Friday, 24 September 2004 17:44 (twenty-one years ago)
