This is the thread where I toss my tunes to the ILM masses (i.e., do not read if you hate hot beats)

Here is the first finished tune from Cleft & Cloven, my electronic(ish) collab. I think it's pretty. If this is too shamelessly self-promotional then let me know, but really, there is no one I would rather try out new stuff on than you guys *sniff*.

That link might have worked kind of funny. Here's the url:

Jordan (Jordan), Thursday, 23 September 2004 13:18 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah, this better be good. Or else you're off the comp. (I tease.)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 23 September 2004 13:20 (twenty-one years ago)

So Ned, the current track I'm working on is this hip-hop thing with the Youngblood horns, I need some hot rhymes, and, well...I THINK YOU'D BE PERFECT FOR IT.

(btw, it looks like saving to disk off my first link is the way to go)

Jordan (Jordan), Thursday, 23 September 2004 13:32 (twenty-one years ago)

Nice. It reminds me a bit of Bonobo, but with Warpier beats. This is a good thing.

Wooden (Wooden), Thursday, 23 September 2004 13:38 (twenty-one years ago)

Thanks, dude. Who's Bonobo? All I got from a quick google was sexy monkeys.

Jordan (Jordan), Thursday, 23 September 2004 16:23 (twenty-one years ago)

ned, is there a comp coming out soon?

peter smith (plsmith), Thursday, 23 September 2004 16:24 (twenty-one years ago)

So Ned, the current track I'm working on is this hip-hop thing with the Youngblood horns, I need some hot rhymes, and, well...I THINK YOU'D BE PERFECT FOR IT.

"Twilight Part II: Wrath of the Math"

Peter, there is indeed a second ILX comp appearing in mid-October.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 23 September 2004 16:31 (twenty-one years ago)

Here's some info on Bonobo, Jordan:

http://www.global-trance.co.uk/fr_index.html?/Bonobo.html

He's pretty good.

Wooden (Wooden), Thursday, 23 September 2004 16:39 (twenty-one years ago)

Nice work, Jordan! I like it.

jaymc (jaymc), Thursday, 23 September 2004 16:49 (twenty-one years ago)

Here's some info on Bonobo, Jordan:

Interesting, it seems like he mostly samples his own playing, that's cool. I haven't heard a lot of people going that route that I really like (i.e. Yesterday's New Quintet), and we're mostly doing it because it seems like the path of least resistance.

Jordan (Jordan), Thursday, 23 September 2004 17:23 (twenty-one years ago)

Thanks a lot, Jay. Btw, you'll have to let me know the next time you're in Madison for a show or whatever. I enjoy drinking.

Jordan (Jordan), Thursday, 23 September 2004 17:25 (twenty-one years ago)

been listening to luomo, have we? (it's pretty good, btw)

m. (mitchlnw), Thursday, 23 September 2004 17:32 (twenty-one years ago)

I've never heard Luomo! They're another one of those names I see on ILX threads a lot. Should I?

Jordan (Jordan), Thursday, 23 September 2004 17:34 (twenty-one years ago)

hahaha omg i was listening to an mp3 with no artist name that WAS luomo, thinking it was this! i'm listening to the real thing now, sorry. colour me embarrassed.

m. (mitchlnw), Thursday, 23 September 2004 17:39 (twenty-one years ago)

i had my mp3s organized by name, not date.

m. (mitchlnw), Thursday, 23 September 2004 17:39 (twenty-one years ago)

(so basically what we've learnt is that i think luomo is pretty good for an luomo-wannabe.)

m. (mitchlnw), Thursday, 23 September 2004 17:40 (twenty-one years ago)

sorry to mess up your thread. this doesn't sound like luomo. it still sounds kinda nice tho.

m. (mitchlnw), Thursday, 23 September 2004 17:41 (twenty-one years ago)

so ned, my band and i are mixing a new song today - can i send you a copy sometime next week for possible inclusion on this comp?

peter smith (plsmith), Thursday, 23 September 2004 17:44 (twenty-one years ago)

Haha, Luomo > Luomo > me. :>

(x-post, oh no)

Jordan (Jordan), Thursday, 23 September 2004 17:45 (twenty-one years ago)

Sorry Peter, I mean: ILX Comp II -- the final accounting (or something)

Jordan (Jordan), Thursday, 23 September 2004 17:48 (twenty-one years ago)

when we're stars, youll regret this!

peter smith (plsmith), Thursday, 23 September 2004 17:54 (twenty-one years ago)

alright alright - i never saw that thread.

peter smith (plsmith), Thursday, 23 September 2004 17:55 (twenty-one years ago)

nonetheless

peter smith (plsmith), Thursday, 23 September 2004 17:55 (twenty-one years ago)

What's your band, Peter?

Jordan (Jordan), Thursday, 23 September 2004 17:57 (twenty-one years ago)

the fake accents - punk/pop/indierock/faststrum in the vein of early superchunk or unrest or pavement. we all like the fall a lot.

peter smith (plsmith), Thursday, 23 September 2004 17:59 (twenty-one years ago)

Fake Accents vs. Fake Fictions FITE!!!

jaymc (jaymc), Thursday, 23 September 2004 18:03 (twenty-one years ago)

faststrum!

Jordan (Jordan), Thursday, 23 September 2004 18:06 (twenty-one years ago)

Now I want to start a metal band and market it as a metal/downpick band.

Jordan (Jordan), Thursday, 23 September 2004 18:07 (twenty-one years ago)

who are the fake fictions?

peter smith (plsmith), Thursday, 23 September 2004 18:09 (twenty-one years ago)

HI!

www.thefakefictions.com

Another ILX band. It's me and Sarah McLusky and a drummer, though Sarah doesn't post as much on ILX any more.

n/a (Nick A.), Thursday, 23 September 2004 18:28 (twenty-one years ago)

Maybe your drummer should start picking up the slack.

Jordan (Jordan), Thursday, 23 September 2004 18:29 (twenty-one years ago)

I like the name "The Fake Accents." I think maybe we sound like you, but poppier.

n/a (Nick A.), Thursday, 23 September 2004 18:32 (twenty-one years ago)

I really like the fake fictions now.

Brandon Biondo (twinkiebots), Thursday, 23 September 2004 18:34 (twenty-one years ago)

I make music too

http://www.stevenbiondo.com/twinkiebots/supersecret.html

Brandon Biondo (twinkiebots), Thursday, 23 September 2004 18:36 (twenty-one years ago)

we have some mp3's on our not-too-often maintained website.

www.thefakeaccents.com

peter smith (plsmith), Thursday, 23 September 2004 18:43 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh, cool, a WMUC connection. I lived/went to high school in Hyattsville, MD, right outside of Univ. of MD College Park and used to listen to that radio station all the time.

n/a (Nick A.), Thursday, 23 September 2004 18:53 (twenty-one years ago)

yeah - we comprised a large portion of the exec staff there for a few years

peter smith (plsmith), Thursday, 23 September 2004 19:00 (twenty-one years ago)

pretty and nice, and 5/4 always makes the critics go ahhhhh

so are you cleft or cloven?

Begs2Differ (Begs2Differ), Thursday, 23 September 2004 19:01 (twenty-one years ago)

oh and nice breakdown halfway thru! didn't see that coming, honestly.

Begs2Differ (Begs2Differ), Thursday, 23 September 2004 19:02 (twenty-one years ago)

we should do a "fake concert" sometime if we ever cross paths, n/a...

peter smith (plsmith), Thursday, 23 September 2004 19:04 (twenty-one years ago)

There will be a third ILX comp. But not for a bit.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 23 September 2004 19:08 (twenty-one years ago)

I like the Fake Fictions a lot too, btw, good tunes. The word that most consistently comes to mind is "charming". Also "adorable".

I also like the one-page website, and may steal it.

Jordan (Jordan), Thursday, 23 September 2004 19:15 (twenty-one years ago)

Fakefest '05. What's in between Chicago and Maryland? Somewhere in Ohio?

n/a (Nick A.), Thursday, 23 September 2004 19:15 (twenty-one years ago)

Jordan, I think you asked about our show last night on the Chicago thread. It was awesome, thanks for asking. First time a band I've been in has gotten an encore request ever.

n/a (Nick A.), Thursday, 23 September 2004 19:17 (twenty-one years ago)

um yknow. maybe a home-and-home series, where we host each other.

these FF's songs are pretty great... we're recording 13 or 15 songs in two weeks on our newly purchased 8-track reel-to-reel, plus this song we're mixing today, so I'll have more current material in a month or so.

peter smith (plsmith), Thursday, 23 September 2004 19:19 (twenty-one years ago)

That's great, Nick! I always get nervous about people showing up. I'm already worried about what I'm going to do when this record is done...I want to do a couple of cd release shows with a live band but we will obv. have no following.

Jordan (Jordan), Thursday, 23 September 2004 19:25 (twenty-one years ago)

Well this was just our third show, so we don't have a following either. We just got a bunch of friends, coworkers, ILXors, and vaguely connected strangers to show up through guilt-tripping and/or bribery, and fortunately people who came to see the other bands stuck around and everyone seemed to have a good time.

I can't listen to the Fake Accents yet, since I'm at work, but I'll try and listen later at home. Don't think we'll be travelling to MD anytime soon (we somehow got all of our equipment and three people in a 4-door Toyota Corolla last night, but it wasn't comfortable), but if you plan a trip up this way, we'll do our best to help set something up.

n/a (Nick A.), Thursday, 23 September 2004 19:35 (twenty-one years ago)

we somehow got all of our equipment and three people in a 4-door Toyota Corolla last night

Are you rollin' with the Corolla to Madison? Damn, I've got the same car, and I can only fit one other person in it because my drums usually live in the back.

Jordan (Jordan), Thursday, 23 September 2004 19:38 (twenty-one years ago)

I think we might try to borrow amp(s) when we play up there, because both of the non-driving bandmembers had to have their knees up under their chins to make everything fit, which is fine for an in-town drive but not for the two hours or so to Madison.

n/a (Nick A.), Thursday, 23 September 2004 19:44 (twenty-one years ago)

leave your knees and chins at home when you come to madison, it'll save room. we've got TONS of 'em up here.

Begs2Differ (Begs2Differ), Thursday, 23 September 2004 19:52 (twenty-one years ago)

ha
