folks.

i have a pile of new sounds that no-one has seemed to mention yet,

so does any of this get the ILM blood rushing :

1. Subtle - FKO - gorgeous new stuff from doseone on Lex .. i LOVE this lots. but just what has Kelly Osbourne done to piss em off ?

2. home video - Citizen EP - Warp new signing .. kraftwerk and factory records together in perfect harmony .. fucking good stuff for autumn days.

3. the koreans - new album .. still aint sure .. loved the debut clive langer produced single .. still digesting the rest.

4. The Vacation - new album. friends of Jet. Should we hold that against them ? Cos despite myself i have thoroughly loved this over last couple of days especially the final track 'Trash' (no - not a cover version ..)

5. akira the don - 1st ep. too biassed here. but still who can argue with the guys style. not me. mothboy remix is truly worthy.

6. blockhead - summer seance - top track off album .. but its the Loka remix that just fucking takes this into brilliance. who are they? anyone have more detail ..

7. the mutts debut ep - garage rock continues apace.

8. scaramanga six - been here already today .. tis just me ..

9. and finally (for now !) - from Finland - the strangely named Husky Rescue .. everything i wanted from zero7 having read the hype prior to hearing their sounds. this time tis done all proper like. (ie very chilled)

too much too much.

loving every minute ..

The Vacation are really nice people.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Thursday, 23 September 2004 20:24 (twenty-one years ago)

sarcasm ?

or genuine .. soz.

cant tell.

been offered interview with them ..

mark e (mark e), Thursday, 23 September 2004 20:25 (twenty-one years ago)

totally genuine

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Thursday, 23 September 2004 20:31 (twenty-one years ago)

nice one - howcome they have a constant changing drummer situtation .. bit spinal tap ? or should i ask them that Q !? or maybe not ..

mark e (mark e), Thursday, 23 September 2004 20:35 (twenty-one years ago)

you should interview Bonk. nobody talks about Bonk on ILM.

scott seward (scott seward), Thursday, 23 September 2004 20:40 (twenty-one years ago)

xpost:
I can't remember why all the drummers have left, but I don't remember there being a death or anything, so it's probably cool to ask.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Thursday, 23 September 2004 20:40 (twenty-one years ago)

umm . lost me - Bonk ?

mark e (mark e), Thursday, 23 September 2004 20:42 (twenty-one years ago)

you were listing stuff that doesn't get mentioned a lot on ILM. So I listed one more. Bonk. I think they are from Norway. Kinda The Darkness+Junior Senior. Which might make you cringe, but the album is cool. It's called Western Soul.

scott seward (scott seward), Thursday, 23 September 2004 20:44 (twenty-one years ago)

Husky Rescue
home video

I'd quite like to hear more about these (or just hear them).

Jordan (Jordan), Thursday, 23 September 2004 20:46 (twenty-one years ago)

ok .. as per request .. more detail !

www.husky-rescue.com - flash intensive - and very pete 'monsterism' fowler style, site has audio streams i think, stuff is out on Catskills. very mellow, but with finnish edge ..

www.homevideooffice.com - not checked that one yet.

"junior senior vs darkness". as neither bands output came anywhere near my stereo i suspect a combi would be quite painful for me
.. still an interesting clash of styles. will add to my radar list ..

For SF folks who care, Subtle are playing at the Bottom of the Hill tomorrow night. Sagan are also playing. I will be there too. I ought to be as, full disclosure alert, cough cough, I am putting out the Sagan DVD on my own little label. So if you are an ILMer going to the show, come up and say hi to me at the merch table.

Drew Daniel, Thursday, 23 September 2004 20:56 (twenty-one years ago)

well, it's way better than the darkness album (which i don't care for), but they do a similar pomo hardrock pastiche thing and their playfulness reminds me of junior senior for some reason. all the material on Western Soul was recorded in 2001/2002.

scott seward (scott seward), Thursday, 23 September 2004 20:57 (twenty-one years ago)

i thought the subtle show was on monday! erk. I half-planned on attending, but now I cannot. Dax is a super nice guy.

kyle (akmonday), Thursday, 23 September 2004 21:04 (twenty-one years ago)

actually, i take it back. i'm listening now. they don't really sound anything like the darkness. they are way more fun and rockin' and garagey. i think i remembered more falsetto.

scott seward (scott seward), Thursday, 23 September 2004 21:08 (twenty-one years ago)

what is this blockhead thing? i have a friend from chicago (dunno where he is now) named Robert Anthony that used to put out music under the name Blockheads or Blockheadz. it was real crunchy Skam type stuff with a few housier numbers. this was 4-5 yrs ago, so who knows what kinda stuff he's making now. could this be the same person?

JaXoN (JasonD), Thursday, 23 September 2004 22:07 (twenty-one years ago)

"The Citizen EP is set for release by Warp on October 5th in the US and October 4th in the rest of the world."

But I didn't vote for Bush! Why me?

Lukas (lukas), Thursday, 23 September 2004 23:15 (twenty-one years ago)

Blockhead = ninjatune dude .. produced sounds for Aesop Rock - released solo album under Blockhead name recently .. class as rather nice and lovely instrumental hip hop. but damn the Loka remix is something else .. not a remix .. a reinterpretation .. adding massive real life jazz drums/orchestrations to stunning effect.

mark e (mark e), Friday, 24 September 2004 07:08 (twenty-one years ago)

the surface noise (slight return) (electricsound), Friday, 24 September 2004 07:09 (twenty-one years ago)

mark e (mark e), Friday, 24 September 2004 07:11 (twenty-one years ago)

the surface noise (slight return) (electricsound), Friday, 24 September 2004 07:13 (twenty-one years ago)

the surface noise (slight return) (electricsound), Friday, 24 September 2004 07:13 (twenty-one years ago)

mark e (mark e), Friday, 24 September 2004 07:19 (twenty-one years ago)

Every chubbyish girl in Ak's dyed their hair black and ripped that Kelly O look Jim, you should move here (or we should swap cos I'm sick to death of it)

Andrew Blood Thames (Andrew Thames), Friday, 24 September 2004 07:22 (twenty-one years ago)
