Why is it particularly annoying when the NYTimes magazine writes about rock or rap music and other youth phenomena

Does anyone else feel this way? I and several of my friends do but it's hard to put my finger on what it is.

It's when they call Snoop "Mr. Dogg" and Biggie "Mr Smalls"

The slightly belittling tone. The minute factoid arguably inaccurate. The nagging notion that now that said artist is being covered in the NYTimes, they no longer matter.

Also, the fear that, being largely the paper of record for the USA, by bestowing its brand of slightly patronizing legitimization at a particular moment, the phenomenon being discussed will be snapshot-ted and therefore dead to further development. That was incredibly difficult to spit out. Also, all that said, the NYTimes is still the greatest paper on the planet.
