'Cause it's 404 on the undercover cop...

Phil, Sunday, 9 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Dave, your link has gone bad.

Mitch Lastnamewithheld, Monday, 10 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Minor flare up. It's all good. Remember - if any links don't work, it's your fault, not mine. Thank you, the management.

David Raposa, Monday, 10 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

You don't want to tell us that 404 is your latest drug, David, do you?

alex in mainhattan, Monday, 10 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Maybe we should call this thread "The Empty Chamber" or "The Emperor's New Clothes" - and then we could have a discussion about what we imagine this track sounds like. About 20 posts in, a violent argument should break out.

Anyway, it's good, but I didn't care much for the violin solo at 2'33"

Jeff W, Monday, 10 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Oh, shit. There IS a problem. Fuuuuudge. Lemme check on dat. The old boss has been fired. Thank you, the new boss.

Feel free to hypothesize on what it could sound like, though.

very smooth and delicious. not really my type of sweet but the bass line is infectious at the very least.

philT, Monday, 10 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Not my cup of tea neither. Makes me think of my student years in the eighties when Sade was played everywhere. The vocals are unfortunately much less sexy than Sade's.

alex in mainhattan, Tuesday, 11 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I like this. It's very slick, but it's got something more going for it than just 'sweetness'.

Jeff W, Tuesday, 11 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

If this were twelve minutes long, I'd be all over it. As it is, it's a bit like a Toyota Camry with a Continental kit.

Colin Meeder, Wednesday, 12 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

cripes, these threads get lost amongst the throng - could they at least get a separate listing in the archive section? and just when do people tell us who it's by??

philT, Thursday, 13 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

i love the artist, but i found the second lp disappointing. her debut is one of the greatest records of the 90's. this song is nice, sexy, smooth, has a great bassline and i'm a sucker for fender rhodes sounds. but i think her earlier stuff if much better, sparse, sexy and way out. go to your preferred filesharing service and get "on and on". ah, and the live version of "tyrone" is outstanding as well. [this is good]

krisinho, Friday, 14 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Annoyingly nasal voice, too-smooth production, nice velvety bassline, nice little guitar (?) lick, softly-played rimshots on the 2 and 4 are duddy dud dud

Clarke B., Friday, 14 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

it's too long but otherwise i like it. the nasal thing's obviously a "style" somewhere between billie holiday and erykah badu. i don't have a problem w/it tho on an album it might wear.

philT - use this bookmark - http://www.popshots.org/ilm/

Tracer Hand, Saturday, 15 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

sorry, if i spoil the fun. this *is* erykah badu, innit? if not, ignore my last comment. i haven't bought her latest album, because it was too lenny-kravitz-esque.
