ethan, Sunday, 9 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Dubplatestyle (8:05 PM): are you serious about the gilles peterson thing?
ethan P23 (8:06 PM): yeah i love it
ethan P23 (8:06 PM): when i was home for thanksgiving my mom said i could order a cd out of her bmg jazz club and they had that on the 'future jazz' page ha so i just got it today and it's seriously amazing stuff (blah blah blah) ethan P23 (8:14 PM): so i got this high school brass band cover of 'voodoo ray'
ethan P23 (8:14 PM): the guy called gerald track you know
ethan P23 (8:15 PM): it is my favorite song in history
ethan P23 (8:15 PM): although this 4 hero remix of a nu yorican soul track on gilles peterson is close
Dubplatestyle (8:15 PM): voodoo ray is really yr favorite track?
Dubplatestyle (8:15 PM): and i've heard that remix. nice.
ethan P23 (8:15 PM): no the original isn't very good
ethan P23 (8:16 PM): the brass band cover is
Dubplatestyle (8:16 PM): oy.
ethan P23 (8:16 PM): it's like the langley schools music project thing
ethan P23 (8:16 PM): only instead of a ten year old singing god only knows it's a brass band covering voodoo ray!
ethan P23 (8:16 PM): god this is beautiful
Dubplatestyle (8:17 PM): actually that sounds fucking brilliant
ethan P23 (8:18 PM): it is brilliant, it's my favorite song in history

wow only one line-break fuckup!

ethan, Sunday, 9 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

"I Am The Black Gold Of The Sun" is indeed excellent. Ethan, have you heard 4 Hero's version of "Les Fleur"? Wonderfully overblown where "I Am..." is delicately restrained.

Tim, Monday, 10 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

OT: Is there a manual or FAQ or anything anywhere on how to do the line-break stuff (and other formatting) properly?

OleM, Monday, 10 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

"so i got this high school brass band cover of 'voodoo ray'"

Not a high school band, but the Williams Fairey band - one of the best in the UK, and formed in the 1930s at the Fairey Aviation Works in Stockport.

They've also covered "Pacific 202", "Strings of Life", "What Time Is Love"...

Michael Jones, Monday, 10 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

i like terry edwards doing the fall and napalm death but the brass band thing iz great fun

don't let the < and the br and the > be separated by the natural line-turn of the greenspun answer type-in space, because it inserts spaces (except where's there's a space already), which causes the html to fail

mark s, Monday, 10 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

that cd on Amazon: Acid Brass - is v good

michael, Monday, 10 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I bought it becaus eI had an urgent need for Minnie Ripperton-'Les Fleur' on vinyl, its as rare as hens teeth and I've never been offered a good bootleg of it. Did mean I had to have yet another recording of Earl 'I've forgotten his bloody name's wuick quick hurry hurry crap. Sons and daughter's of light very good too

Ed, Monday, 10 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

OleM -
You may find this thread helpful as a primer. And there's a Greenspun forum called "HTML Test Forum" where you can practise.

Ethan - link to full track list of GP thing please?

Jeff W, Monday, 10 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

am0n, Thursday, 29 May 2008 23:10 (seventeen years ago)

Cutty Ranks, born Philip Thomas in Jamaica in 1965, is a reggae and dancehall artist. His stage name stems from his former employment as a butcher.

At the age of 14, he began his career as a reggae artist on sound systems such as Gemini, Rebel Tone, and Papa Roots.
