according to the news page here: www.blues-explosion.com

Waits is standing in for Jon Spencer on Letterman tomorrow night (I think it's on ITV2 in the UK).

I think with a bit more work they could rewrite their news page to be even more like a JSBX song.

BLUES EXPLOSION!
Hungh!
Blues Explosion is gonna rock you on Letterman! OW!
That's right! We got the blues! The blues are number one!
Jon is gonna be on a smoke break! GET DOWN!
Tom Waits is gonna rock the house! TOM FUCKIN WAITS YOWWWW!
Hear the glory!

This is either gonna be really cool or not so cool.
Ten years ago, I would have shit my pants with glee over this, though.

Huk-L, Monday, 27 September 2004 16:33 (twenty years ago)

Woah, this is actually Tom Waits with the Blues Explosion? I just assumed that he would be filling in for them with his band. Huh.

Jordan (Jordan), Monday, 27 September 2004 17:26 (twenty years ago)

I nearly went into shock trying to get my vcr to tape this with no antenna.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Wednesday, 29 September 2004 12:11 (twenty years ago)

"DUDE THAT'S BEEN PLAYING BASS WITH TOM FOR FOREVER!"

So that's either a "LARRY!" or a "GREG!" Which one, I wonder?

Colin Meeder (Mert), Wednesday, 29 September 2004 12:21 (twenty years ago)

It definitely wasn't Greg Cohen.

It looks like Waits has had him some faceliftin' done.

Rock Hardy (Rock Hardy), Wednesday, 29 September 2004 12:31 (twenty years ago)

Arrrrrrrrrgh. Why couldn't I have seen this yesterday? WHY?

Philip Alderman (Phil A), Wednesday, 29 September 2004 12:32 (twenty years ago)

Probably Larry Taylor, then, since he's doing the upcoming tour.

Colin Meeder (Mert), Wednesday, 29 September 2004 12:44 (twenty years ago)

I had a gig. :(

Jordan (Jordan), Wednesday, 29 September 2004 12:56 (twenty years ago)

Oh wait, it's on again tomorrow morning at 5:20. Phew.

Philip Alderman (Phil A), Wednesday, 29 September 2004 14:22 (twenty years ago)

Spare, tight, dope.
A shock of talent in the night...

Loose Translation: Sexy Dancer (sexyDancer), Wednesday, 29 September 2004 14:28 (twenty years ago)

Waits' stories were great, performance was killer. Got pissed trying to get VCR to record w/satellite, said fuck it and stayed up. ANyone else see Michael Ian Black host Late Late Show afterwards? Painful. I Love the Oughts material.

tremendoidmandel, Wednesday, 29 September 2004 17:27 (twenty years ago)

I would go to great lengths to get a recording of this.

Jordan (Jordan), Wednesday, 29 September 2004 18:11 (twenty years ago)

I was surprised how restrained Judah & Russell were. It is quite possible that after all these years being all "TEH BUHLOOZ-uh EXPUHLOZHEEYIN-ah!!!!!!" dunt duh dugga duh dunt duh dugga duh etc., they really enjoyed the opportunity to dig in on this slow, steamy bit of deviltry (which was "Make It Rain" btw). I was soooo glad he sat and talked with Tom, too. He's such a ridiculously excellent storyteller.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Wednesday, 29 September 2004 18:16 (twenty years ago)

i missed all this...so tired last night.

latebloomer (latebloomer), Wednesday, 29 September 2004 18:20 (twenty years ago)

I was about to pass out on my couch at about 9, then my roommate busted loudly into the living room all like "DUDE! TOM WAITS ON TV!" and had a 12-pack of Miller High Life and of course it was ON then.

This was soooo badass.

"Well....I invented a war once"

AaronHz (AaronHz), Wednesday, 29 September 2004 18:58 (twenty years ago)

I was surprised how restrained Judah & Russell were.

I heard from a mutual friend that Judah was nervous about performing with Waits. I may be going to see the BX tonite and I hope Waits shows up!

Jay Vee (Manon_70), Wednesday, 29 September 2004 19:13 (twenty years ago)
