rm, Monday, 10 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

just what it says.

Sterling Clover, Monday, 10 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

and whilst we're at it 'blood clart'?

stevo, Monday, 10 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

You mean "bloodclot", obviously.

David Raposa, Monday, 10 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

but blood clot = bloody cloth = tampon

fritz, Monday, 10 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Sleng Teng is marijuana. Under Mi Sleng Teng is a paean to smoking it

michael, Monday, 10 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

actually, don't quote me on that. the other option is something sex-related, and the sensi as aphrodisiac. a lot of the subsequent versions are sex-related (Under Mi Big T'ing, Under Mi Fat T'ing etc)... the lyrics aren't much clue, all the verses are about smoking

michael, Monday, 10 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Evil Jared once belonged to a group called Vaginal Bloodphart. He became then one with the Bloodhound gang. Evil Jared does not use de riddim that is also called Sleng Teng.

eh?

michael, Monday, 10 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

this isn't really ragga, but i was wondering what the significance of the following lyrics:

Never gonna fix the roof, 'til the rain stars to fall, Never gonna need that water, until the well runs dry.

I've heard a Prince Alla song with that in it and a Bob Marley as well. Is it some kind of Jamaican parable?

Just wondering...

cybele, Tuesday, 11 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Then wtf is a 'bloodclot heartattack'? The mind boggles.

stevo, Tuesday, 11 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

bloodklot art atak, or however it was spelt, is referring to a normal blood clot, no?. the patois 'bloodclaat' is cloth, but with the hard Jamaican (or Irish) 'th'

michael, Tuesday, 11 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

What about "bumbaclot"? Is it similar to "raggamuffin"?

David Raposa, Tuesday, 11 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

bumba-clot = bum cloth = toilet paper

fritz, Tuesday, 11 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

The blood clot is indeed a blood cloth, but originally referred not to a tampon, but to a cloth used to clean teh blood of whipped slaves on Carribean plantations.

Paul Evans, Wednesday, 12 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

bumba clot = raas clot

Paul Evans, Wednesday, 12 December 2001 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

"bumba claat" = "coño" = "motherfucker"
"blud claat" = no need for band-aid

Blood-clart means- go lick out!!!

Cordell, Wednesday, 20 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Ok I am no expert but: Sleng teng does refer to the weed... ganja. The other song "unger mi fat ting", under mi slim ting" and many more has no relation to sleng teng aside from the music.

blood claat and rass claat are related. As was said before "blood claat" comes from "blood cloth" which referd to the cloth that was used during the menstural period of slave women. The cloth was also known as the roth (wroth?) cloth.. hence.. Rass claat.

I have not a clue where Bombo comes from but I can assure you that all the above words... except for sleng teng are pretty expressive :-)

You are rather radically changing my preconceptions about DJ Ed Rush's "Bludclot Artattack".

OK, how about http://niceup.com/patois.txt

Chewshabadoo (Chewshabadoo), Thursday, 6 February 2003 17:59 (twenty-two years ago)

When was an automatic link function added? It's handy but it was just designed to make me look like a fool wasn't it? Never mind, I hope someone finds that link useful after all that.

Chewshabadoo (Chewshabadoo), Thursday, 6 February 2003 18:02 (twenty-two years ago)

that patois list is fairly comprehensive, but does have a number of mistakes, and the cop out answer of 'curse words' for Bumba Clot, Blood Clot etc...

michael (michael), Thursday, 6 February 2003 21:59 (twenty-two years ago)

i was always led to believe that blood clot and bumba clot referred more directly to someone who creates tension, the opposite of irie... bein cool... mellow... very positive rastafarian traits... so if you're a blood clot, you're killing me, you're makin me loose my cool and my touch with god, the most irie.

perhaps there's all kinds of connotation floating out there for some of these terms... ??
