Bob Dylan - If You See Her, Say Hello
(well, it won't make you feel better, but it's sad alright)

Loose Translation: Sexy Dancer (sexyDancer), Monday, 4 October 2004 14:51 (twenty-one years ago)

It's not sad, but "Feel a Whole Better" might make you.

six years pass...

Hm, looking for not really sad but good, forward-thinking ones. Think disco, proto-house, pop, Northern Soul, Dexys etc. Stuff like 'At Last I Am Free' by Chic. Need lots of these please.

10cc - I'm Not In Love works too.

Chic's "What About Me" is my jam, though it might not be what you're looking for.

no regrets - tom rush

future bible heroes - i'm lonely (and I love it)

symsymsym, Wednesday, 2 February 2011 23:29 (fourteen years ago)

ashby - horizon

bouquet brigade (electricsound), Wednesday, 2 February 2011 23:32 (fourteen years ago)

cee-lo fuck you is a good one. will dig out the others

amazing actually, how good chic are for this. unlike a lot of disco, v few of their best songs are about loving/missing someone, mostly about dancing/feeling good which is exactly what i need. best ever band just got better

Everything But the Girl, Eden (whole record)
"The Paris Match" - Style Council

Iago Galdston, Thursday, 3 February 2011 00:39 (fourteen years ago)

The Black Keys - Next Girl

Féile Kuti (ecuador_with_a_c), Thursday, 3 February 2011 02:13 (fourteen years ago)

"But Not Tonight" - Depeche Mode

Cyclone Yazoo (Trayce), Thursday, 3 February 2011 02:19 (fourteen years ago)

Some of these don't fit with NI's genre specifics as such,
but fave sour-but-sweet 'not really sad but good, forward-thinking' cuts would include:

Spearmint / Go
Pulp / Happy Endings
Hall and Oates / She's Gone ("I think I've got it, got the strength to carry on.. think I'll spend eternity in the city,
let the carbon monoxide choke my thoughts away and pretty bodies help dissolve the memories.. ")
Bob Dylan / Don't Think Twice, It's Alright
Basement Jaxx / Good Luck
Buddy Holly/ It Doesn't Matter Anymore (fits the desciption better than any song that i can think of. kinda-regretful yet looking forward to not caring some time soon)
Madonna / Til Death Do Us Part

piscesx, Thursday, 3 February 2011 12:26 (fourteen years ago)

"It Doesn't Matter Anymore" slays, and "Don't Think Twice, It's Alright" might be obvious but is still essential for those moments.

gospodin simmel, Thursday, 3 February 2011 12:43 (fourteen years ago)

i will survive (obv)

just sayin, Thursday, 3 February 2011 12:52 (fourteen years ago)

Buddy Holly/ It Doesn't Matter Anymore

ooh good one, used to batter this but good to give it renewed purpose

amazed by how perfect this chic boxset is for this, literally had it on repeat for the past week. apart from deleting the odd one ('thinking of you' hmm) it's the ideal vibe, as well as being fuckboom awesome obv

wary of 'i will survive' just because of the whole big cliche thing but it's a great track so yeah. contrary to what i said above, i bet disco is chockful of this kind of thing, i'll update this thread as i uncover more

NI, Monday, 7 February 2011 12:44 (fourteen years ago)

that box set has new versions of Lost In Music and I Want Your Love. Why?

NI, Tuesday, 8 February 2011 11:27 (fourteen years ago)

Superpitcher - "Time To Cry" (sad break up context: iPod shuffle chose this track to be the final one played in my car before I dropped it off at the garage to sell it)

willem, Tuesday, 8 February 2011 12:48 (fourteen years ago)

Peter Hammill, "Lost and Found". From his break-up album Over which is pretty tortured stuff for the most part but finds some peace and resolution at the end with this track.
