actually, a CD80 would be great. What are the essentials?

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Tuesday, 5 October 2004 07:30 (twenty-one years ago)

Well here's a POX:
Mountain Song
Jane Says
Three Days
Then She Did...
Of Course
Stop!
Ocean Size
Summertime Rolls
No One's Leaving
Ain't No Right

I guess a lot of people would say Ted, Just Admit It, bit that "Sex is violent" thing always got on my nerves.
For a CDR I'd say fit as much as you can off Ritual and Shocking, just deleting your least favorite songs and hang the rest. I haven't heard much from Strays, Kettle Whistle or the live debut that interests me. I might give them a shot someday....

AaronHz (AaronHz), Tuesday, 5 October 2004 07:39 (twenty-one years ago)

There was that one decent track from the Private Parts soundtrack.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Tuesday, 5 October 2004 07:41 (twenty-one years ago)

Eh, but on an 80 minute CD you'd end up leaving out something really good off the albums for that? Wasn't that technically Porno For Pyros anyway?

AaronHz (AaronHz), Tuesday, 5 October 2004 07:46 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah probably, I just thought of including it for historical reasons (not what I usually do on my 'portable' mixes anyway).

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Tuesday, 5 October 2004 07:49 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh you want to go through Strays then? Like a full historical thing? If so, I would try to start with Psi Com and include all the best Porno songs as well.

AaronHz (AaronHz), Tuesday, 5 October 2004 07:52 (twenty-one years ago)

(maybe ending up with a 2CDR at that)

AaronHz (AaronHz), Tuesday, 5 October 2004 07:52 (twenty-one years ago)

No no, I'm going to work on a single disc, best of Jane's Addiction. All of which is on their first three albums (and maybe "Ripple").

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Tuesday, 5 October 2004 07:57 (twenty-one years ago)

The Ripple cover, sure.
But "Hard Charger" shouldn't even be considered then. It ain't no Jane's.

AaronHz (AaronHz), Tuesday, 5 October 2004 08:06 (twenty-one years ago)

I actually think Kettle Whistle is a great song, well worthy of inclusion on a POX (they played it live a few times back in the day; a ragged and tripped out version turned up on the Paraphernalia bootleg, way before the song got the Flea'd-up glossy studio treatment on the Kettle Whistle album [which I dig anyway])

Ain’t No Right
Ocean Size
Mountain Song
Obvious
Kettle Whistle
Three Days
Then She Did
My Time
Jane Says (live, off Kettle Whistle album)
Classic Girl

beautiful too, Tuesday, 5 October 2004 08:11 (twenty-one years ago)

Not reading the above selections first...I'd put...

1. "Ocean Size"
2. "Pigs in Zen" (studio version)
3. "Three Days"
4. "L.A. Medley" (b-side of "Classic Girl" cd single wherein Jane's tackles the Germs and the Doors and X)
5. "Ted, Just Admit It"
6. "Stop"
7. "Idiots Rule"
8. "Standing In the Shower, Thinking"
9. "Rock'n'Roll"
10. "Jane Says"

I honestly can't even remember much from their "new" album....although I seem to recall "the Riches" being pretty good.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Tuesday, 5 October 2004 12:14 (twenty-one years ago)

Gotta have the early version of "Mountain Song" from the Dudes soundtrack. (Did that ever come out on CD? And why didn't that track make it to Live & Rare?)

HELLO- It seems the first self-titled record, which was live and released on XXX, is being ignored here. The album closer "Chip Away" is transcendent, the version of "Jane Says" is their best, and the covers of "Rock and Roll" and "Sympathy for the Devil" are really eerie.

BlastsOfStatic (BlastsofStatic), Tuesday, 5 October 2004 18:43 (twenty-one years ago)

so very OTM re the live XXX. I still listen to that waaaay more than Nothing's Shocking. The "Ripple" cover is good to, IIRC.

Will (will), Tuesday, 5 October 2004 19:39 (twenty-one years ago)

I cited their cover of "Rock'n'roll". Also, "1%" is brilliant.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Tuesday, 5 October 2004 20:53 (twenty-one years ago)

Ocean Size
Mountain Song
Had a Dad
Would For You
Stop
Been Caught Stealin
Standing in the Shower Thinking
Summertime Rolls
City
Jane Says

Yeah 10 doesn't cut it...
