Yes, that same boxy-guy-on-wheels rolling around his apartment thing. Which seemed cool in 1985 — decidedly less so 15 years later.

I wouldn't know. Regardless, this ad campaign (and video, presumably) is pathetic.

I love the 'Money For Nothing' men. I think they should have their own cartoon series.

They're totally gay (which would make Wooden's cartoon series even better I think). The guy who sings Sting's part is quite obviously the bottom.

But "Money for Nothing" is the best video ever!!

...or so Knopfler must think.

Can't say anything about the video, but I heard him on Prairie Home Companion this weekend playing a pretty cool song about Sonny Liston. I dug it 'cause it was so obvious he'd read the Nick Tosches book and liked it so much he wrote a song.

oh, why not, classic.

The experience is inspiring me to work up a screenplay of a character who experiences an epiphany while listening to a radio show of a rock star performing a song inspired by a somewhat fictionalized biography of a long-dead fighter by a well-known music writer. I envision the semi-autobiographical protagonist as being portrayed by one of the "Money For Nothing" appliance-mover dudes.

I find the notion of using the same sort of animation a bit depressing. It smacks of "yoohoo, remember me?" desperation, and like him or not, I'm inclined to think Knopfler's better than that. Oh well.
