http://www.audikarecords.com/flash.html

It's supposed to be out some time soon.

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Wednesday, 6 October 2004 18:38 (twenty-one years ago)

Site sez Sept 2004, but I'm pretty sure that's not true and it's been delayed.

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Wednesday, 6 October 2004 18:39 (twenty-one years ago)

amazon says oct 25th, or whatever tuesday is closest to that...

peter smith (plsmith), Wednesday, 6 October 2004 18:45 (twenty-one years ago)

That would be the 26th.

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Wednesday, 6 October 2004 18:46 (twenty-one years ago)

So if you're still selling your copy of "World of Echo" - how much for?

Jedmond (Jedmond), Wednesday, 6 October 2004 20:27 (twenty-one years ago)

yes, it is getting reissued with extra tracks and some sweet DVD action. i saw the film shot by phill niblock, and it's incredible...if you go for insane close-ups of arthur's fingers and his profile as he plays a forty-minute medley against a buckling backdrop of mylar.

Beta (abeta), Wednesday, 6 October 2004 21:08 (twenty-one years ago)

jed -it's currently on the 'Bay, baby

roger adultery (roger adultery), Wednesday, 6 October 2004 21:19 (twenty-one years ago)

US shipping only = "grumble grumble"

Jedmond (Jedmond), Wednesday, 6 October 2004 22:05 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm flexible on that

roger adultery (roger adultery), Wednesday, 6 October 2004 22:32 (twenty-one years ago)

I have no problems paying the postage to Australia

Jedmond (Jedmond), Wednesday, 6 October 2004 22:47 (twenty-one years ago)

no problem - i just never have any idea what to charge, and i usually end up getting screwed. so as long as we do it on the honor system, i'm sure you've gotten records from the US before, so, go for it!

roger adultery (roger adultery), Wednesday, 6 October 2004 22:49 (twenty-one years ago)

Time to go to ebay then.

Jedmond (Jedmond), Wednesday, 6 October 2004 22:59 (twenty-one years ago)

one month passes...
coming tuesday...

john'n'chicago, Sunday, 7 November 2004 00:50 (twenty-one years ago)

I already got mine actually. The packaging's a bit clunky, but otherwise it's fantastic.

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Sunday, 7 November 2004 00:51 (twenty-one years ago)

what's the dvd like?

tricky (disco stu), Sunday, 7 November 2004 01:11 (twenty-one years ago)

Two pretty crappy videos actually.

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Sunday, 7 November 2004 03:31 (twenty-one years ago)

This CD kicks my ass.

Salvador Saca (Mr. Xolotl), Sunday, 7 November 2004 19:51 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm excited.

Sonny, Ah!!1 (Sonny A.), Monday, 8 November 2004 01:44 (twenty-one years ago)

Two pretty crappy videos actually

Have to disagree. I bought the reissue today and, not only does the album sound great but the VIDEOS! My God, if you're a fan of Russell's I don't know how you could consider the footage "crappy" in any way. They're wonderful looking and sounding documents. I've played them repeatedly tonight. Really an unbelievable release, this one.

Jay Vee (Manon_70), Tuesday, 9 November 2004 03:16 (twenty-one years ago)

Apparently "real" Arthur Russel fans are much bigger fans of his chin than I am (Jesus the first video takes nearly ten minutes to move from it down to the damn cello!)

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Tuesday, 9 November 2004 03:24 (twenty-one years ago)

is this being released as a cheaper single cd without the videos?

bulbs (bulbs), Tuesday, 9 November 2004 03:31 (twenty-one years ago)

NO! You either love chins now or YOU will learn to love them!

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Tuesday, 9 November 2004 03:36 (twenty-one years ago)

at 23 us bucks i think i'll give it a miss.

bulbs (bulbs), Tuesday, 9 November 2004 03:39 (twenty-one years ago)

are the bonus tracks worth it?

bulbs (bulbs), Tuesday, 9 November 2004 03:41 (twenty-one years ago)

according to forced exposure:

First pressing comes with with a bonus DVD (won't be available with the "mass market" CD version released in early 2005!). [...] The initial release of World of Echo is as a limited edition package including a DVD and a 24 page color booklet.

john'n'chicago, Tuesday, 9 November 2004 03:43 (twenty-one years ago)

Apparently "real" Arthur Russel fans are much bigger fans of his chin than I am (Jesus the first video takes nearly ten minutes to move from it down to the damn cello!)

With me it comes down to the exciting fact that there's actual footage of Russell performing his songs and those "10 minutes" of chin are part of the package. I'm glad the videos weren't chopped down/slicked up in order to please the impatient.

Jay Vee (Manon_70), Tuesday, 9 November 2004 04:54 (twenty-one years ago)

I think the videos are great. And Phill Niblock is above any criticism. There, I said it.

Salvador Saca (Mr. Xolotl), Tuesday, 9 November 2004 06:25 (twenty-one years ago)

these are incredibly intimate performances, almost as if Arthur is whispering the songs into your ear. so to have a video with such intense close-ups makes sense. to where you can watch the light reflected off his fingertips as he taps the cello, or even more incredibly, in near-darkness, seeing the light inside of his eyes is a powerful viewing experience.
minimal music with sympathetically minimal video made by one of America's most powerful minimalists...

Beta (abeta), Tuesday, 9 November 2004 15:07 (twenty-one years ago)

I just picked this up (although for $16.99) and I'm really liking the CD. Haven't seen the videos yet. But I'm guessing I'll be more dismayed with the package size/liner notes ratio than I would be the DVD, but oh well, that's what I get for being "on top of the limited edition versions" etc. etc.

MMMMMMMMMM CHIN

donut bitch (donut), Monday, 15 November 2004 02:39 (twenty-one years ago)

Do they liner notes talk about how he was fascinated by water and listened to his music while riding the ferry? I'd like to read more about that.

Michael F Gill (Michael F Gill), Monday, 15 November 2004 19:21 (twenty-one years ago)

donutb, where'd you find it for $16.99?

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Monday, 15 November 2004 19:37 (twenty-one years ago)

It was a sale for a sale item at Sonic Boom in seattle.. they have an online store now... http://www.sonicboomrecords.com (their online items might be more expensive, but their prices are cheeeeap when you're actually there... I got my Crooked Rain Crooked Rain 2-CD reissue there for $11.99)

donut bitch (donut), Monday, 15 November 2004 19:47 (twenty-one years ago)

one month passes...
The packaging of the CD/DVD is really beautiful - design, colors, extension of the original look. One of the few instances of an improvement in re-release art. Music is Classic of course. I don't have a previous CD to compare the remastering.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Wednesday, 12 January 2005 01:55 (twenty years ago)

WORLD OF is still the one I'd want to start with, because of the variety. But this is amazing.

don, Wednesday, 12 January 2005 02:03 (twenty years ago)

D'oh! WORLD OF ARTHUR RUSSELL was the one I meant.

don, Wednesday, 12 January 2005 02:05 (twenty years ago)

The design certainly made me feel better about paying all that money for it.

.adam (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 12 January 2005 16:12 (twenty years ago)

there is no prev. cd to compare it to.
pure calgon...

tender milch, Wednesday, 12 January 2005 20:06 (twenty years ago)

I paid like $40 for this through amazon, then went to amoeba and found a stack of them for $21! they're gone now though.

kyle (akmonday), Thursday, 13 January 2005 15:07 (twenty years ago)

I know, right?, Tuesday, 25 December 2007 12:33 (eighteen years ago)

the next song is called 'i'm sorry, but this is how i learn'

r1o natsume, Tuesday, 25 December 2007 14:43 (eighteen years ago)

this is one of the most unique sounding records ever made, and the music is brilliant and memorable to boot. my girlfriend just got me The World Of... on vinyl for Christmas! What a sweetie.

sleeve, Tuesday, 25 December 2007 16:51 (eighteen years ago)

this record was how I heard Russell for the first time, on some shitty 115k rips that were in somebody's shared directory along with Virgin Prunes and This Heat. I knew it had to be good.

sleeve, Tuesday, 25 December 2007 16:52 (eighteen years ago)

It sounds so rainy and yet so arid. If that makes sense.

I know, right?, Tuesday, 25 December 2007 17:07 (eighteen years ago)

soon enuf.

Surmounter, Tuesday, 25 December 2007 17:43 (eighteen years ago)

someone needs to reissue the Dinosaur-Kiss Me Again 12 inch on Sire, the 13 minute version, because I can't stop playing the MP3 and I want a CD quality version. Steve Knutson told me recently he has no interest in licensing any material he doesn't already have the rights to, so please someone else do this somehow! thank you in advance.

jon abbey, Tuesday, 25 December 2007 19:48 (eighteen years ago)

Bought that 12" a few years ago on ebay - love it (d'oh). A reissue would be a good idea though, I agree. Going to play World of Echo now, haven't heard it in a long time..

willem, Wednesday, 26 December 2007 14:16 (eighteen years ago)
