actually I'm not sure that's what this is saying at all.

Better Than Ezra fits Bill

LITTLE ROCK, Arkansas (AP) -- Southern pop trio Better Than Ezra will play at a free concert on Little Rock's riverfront the night before the Clinton Library opens.

The New Orleans-based trio will be joined Nov. 17 at an amphitheater two blocks from the Clinton Presidential Center by the North Mississippi All-Stars and B-Side, an up-and-coming band at the University of Arkansas, it was announced recently.

All three groups were inspired by Delta music, which President Clinton loved as a child.

Clinton's collection of Delta music, including early Elvis Presley recordings, is the subject of the Clinton Library's first temporary exhibit.

Ah yes. Elvis Presley, king of Memphis Delta music, which was a big influence on Better than Ezra (WTF???).

Tell me that there aren't any songs by Better Than Ezra that feature saxophone. Please tell me this is the case.

I saw a Better than Ezra greatest hits album out in the stores. Loved "Good", "Roselia" and "In the Blood" from Deluxe and "Circle of Friends" from the Empire Records soundtrack, but have no desire to hear what came after.

Better Than Ezra, which, ironically, are better than no one. OK, OK! I've had my fun!

xgurggleglgllg (xgurggleglgllg), Saturday, 28 January 2006 22:03 (nineteen years ago)

That was totally the hit alt-rock progression of the 90s! See also "When I Come Around" and such -- G, D, Em, C.

They could revamp for a comeback by renaming themselves "Bettering Ezra."

nabisco (nabisco), Saturday, 28 January 2006 22:39 (nineteen years ago)

Boy, if they're better, Ezra must really suck.
Thank you. Try the veal.

Oh, jeez! Poor Ezra!

"These guys are the Fugazi of New Orleans."

I figured that was Crowbar.

they don't need to make a comeback when the rock boat exists. speaking of trying the veal ...

If you play each of these 8 times instead of 4 it's "Swing Swing" by All American Rejects.

So, I've been in the process of digitizing all the discs that have sat unplayed on the shelf for years and got to the first two Better Than Ezra albums and, you know, these guys weren't terrible! I mean, in a world where the Gin Blossoms can remain critic darlings in some circles, I feel like these guys shouldn't be forgotten. Sure, the lyrics could be beyond cheesy sometimes and I don't think I'll ever need to hear "Good" again, but I'll defend the first two.

Better than Ezra POX:
"Rosealia"
"Teenager"
"King of New Orleans"
"This Time of Year"
"Rewind" (despite the cheesy mixtape theme, this kind of hits a nostalgic spot for me)
"Desperately Wanting"
"Summer House"
"Normal Town"
"Return of the Post Moderns"
"Southern Girl"

There was a Halloween show at the Blue Note in Columbia MO featuring Better Than Ezra as Devo.
It's a local legend of sorts.

Trip Maker, Monday, 26 July 2010 14:42 (fifteen years ago)

Okay, despite my defense of them, that sounds awful.

i should probably listen to something of theirs that isn't "good"

markers, Monday, 11 July 2011 04:39 (fourteen years ago)

four years pass...

This song "Good" by Better Than Ezra sounds eerily similar to the song "When I Come Around" by Green Day, which came out in 1994, a whole year before "Good" was ever released, and this makes me assume that Better Than Ezra stole Green Days song and passed it off as one of their own, which in itself is a very low/ scum-baggy thing for a band to do. But then a few years later comes a song called "Closing Time" by Semisonic that is released in 1998, and this song sounds very similar to another song, "Good" by Better Than Ezra. So in the end what you get is one band (Green Day) creating an original song, then another band coming along (Better Than Ezra) and stealing the previous bands song, but then later on a third band (Semisonic) comes along and steals a song from the previous band (BTE) that had already stolen their song from the original band. So in effect one band stealing from another band, and then having their stolen song stolen by another band just creates this vicious cycle that ends up with one original song and many shitty mimic songs, that in all fuck up the music genre for everyone because of some uncreative and no talent hacks feeding off of others success. It all just really makes me sick to my stomach, because of these parasites leaching off others success.
